BRIGHT AND SHINY TUESDAY MORNING IN MAQUOKETA. LOOKING FOR A HIGH AROUND 80 TODAY.

YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WE HAD A LIGHT RAIN AND LAST NIGHT AROUND 9 P.M., WE HAD A THUNDERSTORM GO THROUGH .....AND TOTAL RAIN IN THE LAST 24 HOURS, JUST 22/100 OF AN INCH. NOT ENOUGH.

I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS BRINGING UP THE PROGRAM TO DO THIS DAILY REPORT. LAST NIGHT, AGAIN, IT WOULD NOT WORK. ALSO LAST NIGHT, DID AN AUDIO REPORT, AND IT DIDN'T GO UP ON THE WEB.
NOW THIS MORNING, I THOUGHT I'D TRY....AND ALL IS OK AND I CAN DO THIS. SOMETIMES I THINK AROUND 5:30 EVENINGS IS THE WRONG THING TO DO ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET. I MAY HAVE TO CHANGE THESE REPORTS TO MID-AFTERNOON OR MORNINGS.

ANN BURNS, NATURALIST FOR THE CONSERVATION BOARD, IS THE ROTARY "CITIZEN OF THE WEEK" ON www.maquoketa-rotary.org

CITY COUNCIL AND SCHOOL BOARD MEETING LAST NIGHT. THE SCHOOL BOARD TOURED THE AREA WHERE THE NEW TRACK AND TENNIS COURTS CONSTRUCTION IS GOING ON. THINGS ARE MOVING ALONG QUICKLY ON THE TRACK AND SIX NEW TENNIS COURTS. THE TRACK SHOULD COME IN UNDER BUDGET ESTIMATE OF $250,000 AND THE TENNIS COURTS, BECAUSE OF SOIL PROBLEMS, MAY COME IN ABOVE THE ESTIMATED PRICE TAG OF $180,000.
AT THE COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT, MEMBERS SET A SPECIAL MEETING FOR NEXT MONDAY TO LOOK AT BIDS FOR PAVING 43RD STREET, IN FRONT OF THE NEW TACO JOHNS RESTAURANT.

TWO MAQUOKETA RESIDENTS WERE HONORED WITH LIFESAVING AWARDS FRIDAY AT THE IOWA STATE FAIR.
DUANE KLOFT RECEIVED A VALOR AWARD AND WENDIE LEEPER RECEIVED A MERITORIOUS AWARD. BOTH WERE HONORED FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN HELPING A MAN WHO WAS CLINGING TO A BOAT AT LAKEHURST DAM AT MAQUOKETA BACK ON FEBRUARY 28, 2003. GOV. VILSACK GAVE AWARDS FRIDAY TO 19 IOWANS.

IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL DAYS SINCE WE HAVE HAD A MAQUOKETA DEATH. NOTHING FROM THE TWO MAQUOKETA FUNERAL HOMES.

SATURDAY NIGHT, SAGE ROSENFELS, FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA (PARENTS LIVE JUST NORTH OF TOWN) THREW A TOUCHDOWN PASS (ONLY TOUCHDOWN) IN MIAMI'S EXHIBITION NFL FOOTBALL WIN. HE WAS 7 FOR 9 IN PASSES. GOOD WAY TO START THE SEASON.

ANOTHER NEW HOME GOING UP BY PRAIRIE CREEK GOLF COURSE, WHICH HAS BUILDING LOTS AROUND THE EDGE OF COURSE. FIVE HOMES OUT THERE NOW.

WILL TRY TO HAVE ANOTHER REPORT LATER TODAY.

HAVE A GOOD TUESDAY.
