NO SCHOOL IN MAQUOKETA YESTERDAY, BECAUSE OF ICEY ROADS.
SCHOOL TODAY, BUT NOW 8-10 INCHES OF SNOW IN FORECAST STARTING TONIGHT AND GOING UNTIL EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. THE BASKETBALL GAMES HERE IN MAQUOKETA AND AT DYERSVILLE WERE JUST CALLED OFF FOR TONIGHT AND RE-SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, JANUARY 15TH.

THE CITY COUNCIL MET LAST NIGHT AND FOUND OUT THEY COULD NOT APPOINT A NEW COUNCILMAN (TO REPLACE TOM SCHUELLER) UNTIL THEY PUBLISHED A NOTICE OF VACANCY. SO FAR, 3 PEOPLE HAVE APPLIED FOR THE POSITION.
UNLESS THERE IS A PETITION CALLING FOR A SPEICAL ELECTION (NOT EXPECTED), THE COUNCIL WILL APPOINT A NEW MEMBER AT THE NEXT MEETING ON
JANUARY 17TH.

BOARD MEMBERS OF THE MAQUOKETA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHT AND POWER LATE LAST YEAR ASKED FOR AN INCREASE IN THEIR PER MEETING PAYMENT FROM $25 TO $40 AND IT WAS APPROVED LAST NIGHT.

THE PROJECT TO ELIMINATE RADIUM (WHICH HAS BEEN THERE FRO UMTEEN YEARS) IN THE CITY WATER, IS ESTIMATED TO COST $4.5 MILLION.
A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PLANS AND SPECS IS SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 7TH.
THE WATER BILLS WILL BE GOING UP FOR EVERYONE.

A BREAK-IN AT THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH SOMETIME YESTERDAY..ON WEST PLATT STREET, NETTED THE THIEF $150 IN CASH.

HARVEY EHLERS , RURAL MAQUOKETA, REPORTED SOMEONE VANDALIZED HIS 91 BLAZER. NO DAMAGE AMOUNT LISTED. THIS HAPPENED LAST NIGHT.

BAD WEATHER YESTERDAY, BUT 73 BRAVED THE ICEY CONDITIONS AND WENT TO THE GROSSMAN CENTER IN DELMAR TO GIVE BLOOD. HAVE YOU GIVEN BLOOD
LATELY?

CHAD AND TRICIA GRAGERT OF ODELL, ILLINOIS, HAD A GIRL BACK ON NOVEMBER 22ND. GRANDPARENTS ARE STEVE AND ALESHA HINZ, FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA. GREAT GRANDPARENTS ARE MARY LANCASTER AND JOHN AND AGNES HINZ OF MAQUOKETA.

TOM SCHUELLER, WHO GOES TO DES MOINES NEXT WEEK FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF HIS INITIAL SESSION IN THE IOWA LEGISLATURE, IS THIS WEEK'S MAQUOKETA ROTARY "CITIZEN OF THE WEEK".....PICTURE AND STORY AT
www.maquoketa-rotary.org TAKE A LOOK.

SAGE ROSENFELS PLAYED THE ENTIRE GAME AT QUARTERBACK SUNDAY FOR THE DOLPHINS...AND THREW FOR 264 YARDS, ONE GOOD FOR A 74-YARD TOUCHDOWN.
UNFORTUNATELY HE ALSO THREW 3 INTERSEPTIONS AND THE TEAM LOST
BY 7 POINTS TO A TEAM WITH A BETTER RECORD (BALTIMORE) AND A TEAM THAT NEEDED TO WIN FOR ANY CHANCE AT ALL FOR THE PLAYOFFS. ANYWAY...I HEARD THE GAME HERE ON MY COMPUTER AND I'M HAPPY FOR SAGE....HE DEFINITLY GOT A BOOST FOR HIS NFL CAREER BECAUSE OF THE GAME. WILL BE FUN NOW TO
FIND OUT THIS WINTER WHAT HIS FATE (WHAT TEAM HE WILL PLAY FOR) WILL BE FOR NEXT YEAR.

AND HOW ABOUT THOSE HAWKEYES AND THAT LAST SECOND VICTORY??!!!
TOO BAD THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS DIDN'T PULL OFF SOME WORLD SERIES WINS LIKE THAT.

HAVE A GOOD WEEK. FEEL SORRY FOR YOU FOLKS DOWN SOUTH...NEVER GETTING A CHANCE TO SPREAD SOME ICE-MELT ON YOUR SIDEWALK....OR SHOVELING THAT
FLUFFY WHITE STUFF. IS IT REALLY 120 DOWN THERE IN JULY?

THANKS FOR THE VISIT.

DENNIS VOY
