IS IT PHOENIX?
NO....MAQUOKETA!
90 TODAY AND HUMID!
YES..I KNOW, PHOENIX HAS LOW HUMIDITY.
NOW..WE MAY GET SOME STORMS TONIGHT.
BUT THEN, THE REST OF THE WEEK AND WEEKEND SHOULD BE COOLER AND
PRETTY NICE.

BIG GAME TONIGHT! AT FARLEY. IF THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM BEATS INDEPENDENCE, THEY PLAY NEXT WEEK AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT IN FORT DODGE.
THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS ARE TRYING TO GET BACK TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT
FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1998. IF THEY WIN TONIGHT, THEIR FIRST GAME
AT STATE WOULD BE NEXT TUESDAY AT 5:30 P.M. AGAINST THE REGION #4
CHAMPION, EITHER #1 RANKED CARLISLE OR 14TH RANKED DALLAS CENTER
GRIMES. THOSE TWO TEAMS PLAY TONIGHT AT SAYDEL.
GO CARDINALS! THE GAME ON KMAQ-FM AT 7 TONIGHT WITH LEIGHTON
HEPKER AT THE PLAY-BY-PLAY MIKE.

THE JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD SAID, FOLLOWING A CLOSED
SESSION LAST NIGHT, THEY WOULD TAKE NO ADDITIONAL ACTION AGAINST
THEIR DIRECTOR, DARYL PARKER. AFTER MEETING WITH THEIR ATTORNEY FROM DAVENPORT, THE BOARD MEMBERS SAID THEY WOULD TAKE NO ADDITIONAL ACTION AGAINST PARKER. THE BOARD SAID WHAT HAD BEEN DONE PREVIOUSLY WAS TO PROTECT PARKER AND THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE SITUATION, IT STARTED LAST WINTER WHEN PARKER
WAS ACCUSED OF KICKING A TEENAGE BOY DURING A GAME OF LASER TAG IN WISCONSIN. HE HAS SINCE BEEN ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE WITH PAY AND IS PROHIBITED FROM WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND HE GAVE UP HIS GUN.
ALSO, A SECOND CHARGE WAS MADE INVOLVING ANOTHER YOUTH AT THE SAME INCIDENT. BOTH ARE FELONY CHARGES IN WISCONSIN. PARKER'S ARRAIGNMENT HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR 1 P.M. ON FRIDAY, JULY 23RD WHEN HE IS LIKELY TO PLEAD NOT GUILTY OR GUILTY TO THE TWO CHARGES.

THERE WAS A BREAK-IN AND VANDALISM AT THE GROVE STREET BALL DIAMOND
CONCESSION STAND SOMETIME MONDAY OR TUESDAY. THE PERSON ATE SOME FOOD AND MADE A MESS IN THE BUILDING.
ALSO ON THE POLICE BLOTTER, TWO TIRES ON MELISSA WALK'S CAR WERE SLASHED OVERNIGHT TUESDAY WHILE PARKED AT 501 E. QUARRY STREET.
AND...MIKE LENHART AT 119 N. GROVE STREET SAID KIDS WALKED THROUGH THE WET CEMENT AT HIS PROPERTY.

RUTH STRUB, 96, OF DUBUQUE, DIED YESTERDAY AT LUTHER MANOR.
SHE WAS A HOMEMAKER AND BOOKKEEPER, ALSO SEAMSTRESS AND QUILT
MAKER. SHE IS SURVIVED BY 3 DAUGHTERS, INCLUDING LONNIE HERMAN OF
MAQUOKETA. ALSO 9 GRANDCHILDREN, A SISTER AND TWO BROTHERS.

THE JACKSON COUNTY MASTER GARDNERS CONTINUED THEIR COMMITMENT RECENTLY TO BEAUTIFY DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA BY PLANTING A VARIETY
OF ATTRACTIVE, COLORFUL PLANTS IN DOWNTOWN CONTAINERS.

THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIRBOARD JUST COMPLETED BUILDING A 60 BY 88 FOOT
BUILDING EAST OF THE GRANDSTAND ON THE FAIRGROUNDS IN MAQUOKETA.
IT WILL BE USED FOR THE BEER GARDEN DURING THE FAIR. A GRAND
OPENING CELEBRATION WILL BE HELD FRIDAY NIGHT, STARTING AT 7 P.M.
AND FOLLOWED BY MUSIC BY THE LOCAL BAND "JAMMER" FROM 8 UNTIL MIDNIGHT. EVERYONE IS INVITED. THE BLUE BUILDING IS FULLY ENCLOSED ON TWO SIDES ND THE TWO OPEN SIDES OVERLOOK THE RACE TRACK AND GRANDSTANDS. VOLUNTEER LABOR CONSTRUCTED THE BUILDING.
IT INCLUDES A BIG STAGE AND A WALK-IN COOLER. DURING THE YEAR, IT WILL BE RENTED FOR WEDDING REHERSALS, REUNIONS, DANCES, GRADUATION PARTIES,
ETC. A NICE ADDITION TO OUR FAIRGROUNDS, KNOWN AS ONE OF THE FINEST
IN THE STATE OF IOWA. THE FAIR STARTS TWO WEEKS FROM TONIGHT.

I'VE BEEN TOLD THE GROUND WHERE THE BURNED DOWN BUILDINGS WERE LOCATED DOWNTOWN HAS BEEN SEEDED WITH GRASS. NOTHING COMING UP YET.
WHEN THE GRASS ARRIVES, I'LL TAKE ANOTHER PHOTO. AND NO BUYER FOR THE PROPERTY YET. PEOPLE TELL ME IT WOULD BE A NICE PLACE FOR SOMEONE TO
BUILD A NEW RADIO STATION AND THEATRE.

KEEP COOL EVERYONE.
