THE BEAR CREEK NARCOTICS TASK FORCE RAIDED A RURAL MAQUOKETA HOME SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND FOUND METHAMPHETAMINE ON TWO RESIDENTS, STEVEN VAN HECKE, AGE 39 AND DALE WEIMERSKIRCH, AGE 51, WHO BOTH LIVED ON THE PROPERTY AT 16075, 85TH STREET, RURAL MAQUOKETA. BOTH MEN WERE ORIGINALLY JAILED ON $13,000 BOND EACH. IN MAGISTRATE COURT TODAY, VAN HECKE'S BOND WAS REDUCED TO $1,950 (UNSECURED) BOND AND WEIMERSKIRCH'S BOND WAS REDUCED TO $9,750.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES ARE PENDING AGAINST BOTH.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION DAY TOMORROW. NO CONTEST HERE IN MAQUOKETA FOR THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL DISTRICT. BOTH INCUMBENTS, LESLIE LAWSON AND MARY BARTELS ARE SEEKING RE-ELECTION UNOPPOSED.

A COUPLE ACCIDENTS OVER THE WEEKEND. LLOYD THOLA, AGE 49, OF MAQUOKETA WAS IN A TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT SUNDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT 4 MILES SOUTH OF LAMOTTE. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BY DAISY CLASEN, AGE 87, OF LAMOTTE. CLASEN WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE.
THOLA'S 2004 TRUCK RECEIVED NO DAMAGE AND CLASEN'S 98 FORD RECEIVED ABOUT $4,500 IN DAMAGES.

MICHAEL KUHLMAN, AGE 42, OF MAQUOEKTA WAS IN AN ACCIDENT SUNDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT 5 MILES EAST OF MAQUOKETA. HE DIDN'T MAKE A CURVE AND HIT AND MAILBOX AND POLE AND WAS NOT INJURED.

MORE COURT NEWS: KEITH WILSON, AGE 37, OF MAQUOKETA WAS CHARGED WITH DOMESTIC ASSAULT. THE POLICE REPORT SAYS HE GBABBED HIS GIRLFRIEND AROUND THE NECK SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT 203 1/2 SOUTH MAIN STREET.
