MAQUOKETA PLAYS AT MARION TONIGHT......MARION IS UNDEFEATED.
BRAD DEERY MOTORS REPORTED A WINDOW OF ONE OF THEIR CARS WAS BROKEN OUT WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
ADA GARRITY, 87, OF MAQUOKETA DIED TODAY AT HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE. YOU CAN READ THE OBITURARY AT www.laheys.com
SANDRA O'MEARA CROMER, AGE 107, THE OLDEST RESIDENT OF CLINTON COUNTY, DIED YESTERDAY AT THE WESTWING PLACE IN DEWITT. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER DAUGHTER, BETTY HENNINGSEN OF MAQUOKETA.
A HISTORICAL NOTE: ON OCTOBER 14, 1924, THE LAKEHURST DANCE PAVALION OPENED AND BECAME ONE OF IOWA'S MOST POPULAR DANCE SPOTS. BIG NAME BANDS PLAYED THERE, INCLUDING GUY LOMBARDO, WAYNE KING, SAMMY KAY AND RED NICHOLS. THE DANCE HALL BURNED DOWN IN 1936. THE FOOTINGS FOR THE BUILDING CAN STILL BE SEEN.
