THURSDAY DAILY REPORT

TODAY HAS BEEN COOLER.
WE GOT UP TO 77 LATE THIS MORNING AND THEN WE GOT HEAVY RAIN
OVER THE NOON HOUR.
THIS AFTERNOON, NO RAIN, BUT CLOUDY AND  TEMPERATURES WERE
LOWERED BY THE RAIN AND IN THE MID 60'S THIS AFTERNOON.
TOMORROW, MORE RAIN BUT SATURDAY SHOULD BE DRY, SUNNY AND
NICE.

TODAY AT 5 P.M. WAS THE DEADLINE TO FILE FOR CITY OFFICES.
IN MAQUOKETA..,.
WE WILL HAVE A CONTEST FOR MAYOR BETWEEN PRESENT MAYOR
DON SCHWENKER AND COUNCILMAN CORY SIMONSON.
WE WILL ALSO HAVE A CONTEST FOR COUNCIL AT LARGE BETWEEN
COUNCILMAN JERRY BOWEN AND CHALLENGER KEVIN KUHLMAN.
FOR WARD 1, WE WILL HAVE A CONTEST BETWEEN COUNCILMAN
EDGAR TURNEY AND CHALLENGER, CRAIG ORRIS.
FOR WARD 3, COUNCILMAN ERIC PAPE WILL RUN UNOPPOSED.
AND FOR WARD 5, WE WILL HAVE A NEW COUNCILMAN, CHUCK CURRENT,
WHO WILL REPLACE TROY THEDE WHO DID NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION.  
CURRENT WILL HAVE  NO OPPOSITION.
SO, ON JANUARY 1ST,  CITY GOVERNMENT COULD HAVE FOUR NEW FACES AT THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS.   ELECTION DAY IS NOVEMBER 3RD.

THE WORLD HAS A NEW MELVOLD....FORMER KMAQ NEWS DIRECTOR
SHERI MELVOLD IS NOW A GRANDMOTHER.
A BOY... (6 POUNDS PLUS-OUNCES WITH DARK BLACK HAIR) ...WAS BORN WEDNESDAY AT A DUBUQUE HOSPITAL TO TIM AND HILLIARY MELVOLD.   HE IS LANDON THOMAS MELVOLD AND I SAW A PHOTO AND HE IS A HANDSOME BABY.   TIM WORKED FOR ME AS A STUDENT ANNOUNCER WHILE ATTENDING
MCHS AND HILLIARY HAS TAUGHT SCHOOL HERE IN MAQUOKETA.
CONGRATULATIONS TO TIM AND HILLIARY AND SHERI (TOM
MESSERLI TOO).         LANDON'S GREAT-GRANDMOTHER IS FRANCIS MELVOLD
OF MAQUOKETA AND LANDON'S GRANDFATHER IS FRIEND AND FELLOW
ROTARIAN DOUG MELVOLD.    CONGRATULATIONS TO FRANCES AND
DOUG.         MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS ARE GREG AND NANCY APPEL OF
CEDAR RAPIDS AND TERRY WADDELL OF CEDAR RAPIDS.    GREAT-
GRANDMOTHER  IS KAY PITLIK OF CEDAR RAPIDS.

RESIDENTS OF JONES AND JACKSON COUNTY ARE BEING NOTIFIED
OF REPORTS OF A WHITE CAR AND A BLACK SEDAN TAKING PHOTOS
OF CHILDREN OUTSIDE OF THEIR HOME AND AROUND PARKS.   THIS SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR HAS NOT GONE BEYOND TAKING THEM AT A DISTANCE BUT RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO NOT LET THEIR CHILDREN
PLAY OUTSIDE WITHOUT PROPER SUPERVISION.    LAW ENFORCEMENT
AGENCIES HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS AND CITIZENS THAT SEE
THIS KIND OF THING ARE URGED TO REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY TO
YOUR POLICE STATION.

GENE AUTRY ENTERTAINED WITH CHAMPION AT THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR
IN 1957.   MANY RECALL IT WAS HOT WHILE HE WAS HERE AND HE GOT
QUITE THIRSTY.    ABOVE AN INTERESTING STORY THIS SUMMER IN THE BELLEVUE HERALD-LEADER.   I WAS AN AUTRY FAN AND ROY ROGERS FAN
TOO.   GENE LATER ON OWNED A MAJOR LEAGUE  BASEBALL TEAM OUT
WEST.

THE ABOVE RESTAURANT WAS LOCATED RIGHT ACROSS FROM MY THEATRE
AND WHERE BOB THE BARBER IS LOCATED NOW.  I NEVER HEARD OF
GEORGE RALSTON.     ANYONE REMEMBER HIM?

I STILL HAVE A SMALL, NEW APARTMENT FOR RENT ABOVE THE
THEATRE.   NICE ONE.    EMAIL ME IF  YOU NEED INFORMATION.

95.1.      RUSTY LIETZ IS ON AM 1320 THEN.    AND WE BOTH NOW  HAVE BOWLING SCORES....AT 7:15 IN THE MORNING ON AM STATION ....AND 7:35 ON FM STATION.

ASHLEY STARR....OUR 1 TO 4 P.M AFTERNOON DJ ON AM AND FM....IS GETTING MARRIED SATURDAY.   WE ARE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO
THE  BIG EVENT.

BELLEVUE CITY WIDE GARAGE SALES DAY SATURDAY, SEPT. 19TH FROM 7 A.M. UNTIL 2 P.M.    A TOTAL OF 27 GARAGE SALES.
