PLEASANT FALL WEATHER IN MAQUOKETA.
I'M SORRY TO INFORM YOU THAT MY DAUGHTER CHRISTY, AGE 38, DIED LAST NIGHT. SHE NEVER REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS AT IOWA CITY. THANK GOD, HUSBAND CHARLIE RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES TO ONE LEG AND WAS NOT HOSPITALIZED. THEIR MOTORCYLE ACCIDENT OCCURRED SUNDAY AFTERNOON ON A VERY BUSY DUBUQUE HIGHWAY, WITH UNUSUAL HEAVY TRAFFIC BECAUSE OF THE BEAUTIFUL WEATHER. THEY WERE HEADING SOUTH TO MAQUOKETA ON HIGHWAY 61, IN KEYWEST, AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF DUBUQUE. THEY HAD BEEN TO DUBUQUE TO BUY MOTORCYLE HELMETS BUT COULD NOT FIND THE ONES THEY WANTED.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY HUSBAND, CHARLIE; DAUGHTER SARA, AGE 18 AND SON NATHAN, AGE 15, BOTH AT HOME. THE FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE SATURDAY MORNING AT FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA. SHE WAS A GREAT DAUGHTER, LOVING WIFE AND MOTHER AND WAS IN HER 9TH YEAR WORKING WITH BHD KIDS AT BRIGG'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. SHE ALSO WORKED PARTTIME FOR ME AT THE DRIVE-IN AND HERE AT KMAQ. A PICTURE OF HER IS ON THE HOME PAGE OF KMAQ'S WEB SITE. SHE WAS AN ORGAN DONOR. SHE WAS BORN IN FORT HOOD, TEXAS WHILE WE WERE LIVING IN TEXAS WHEN I WAS IN THE U.S. ARMY. NANCY AND I AND HER FAMILY LOVED HER DEARLY AND WILL MISS SEEING AND TALKING TO HER DAILY.
I HAVE ALWAYS HEARD HOW HARD IT IS TO LOOSE A CHILD....NOW I KNOW.
I WILL GET BACK TO DOING THIS REPORT EARLY NEXT WEEK.
DENNIS
