HOT AGAIN TODAY, BUT THERE IS A BETTER BREEZE TODAY....
WE WERE SUPPOSED TO GET CLOSE TO 100 TODAY, BUT INSTEAD, THE HIGH
WAS 96, A DEGREE LOWER THAN YESTERDAY.
TOMORROW, A HIGH OF 93 AND FRIDAY, LOOKING FOR A POSSIBLE HIGH
OF ONLY 89.
WE ARE AIRING SEVERAL PUBLIC SERVICE SPOTS FROM PUBLIC PLACES
THAT ARE STAYING OPEN...OR STAYING OPEN LONGER...THAT INVITE
PEOPLE TO COME IN AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR AIR-CONDITIONING.
WILL IT GET COOLER SOON? RIGHT NOW, THE FORECAST FOR MONDAY
IS FOR MOSTLY SUNNY AND HIGH OF 85. YES, LOOKS LIKE SOME RELIEF
IS COMING.

BEFORE I FORGET, THE PRESTON BOYS CAME FROM BEHIND LAST NIGHT
AND IN THE FINAL 7TH INNING, WON THEIR GAME ON A 3-RUN WALK-OFF
HOME RUN AND WON 5 TO 4. SO, THE PRESTON BOYS, LIKE THE PRESTON GIRLS, WILL BE IN THE STATE TOURNAMENT.....
THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW THAT BOTH TEAMS ARE STATE TOURNAMENT
TEAMS.

THERE ARE 10 CANDIDATES FOR THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR QUEEN.
THE NAME OF THE QUEEN AND HER COURT WILL BE ANNOUNCED DURING
CEREMONIES AT 2 THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE PEARSON MEMORIAL
CENTER ON THE FAIRGROUNDS. THE CANDIDATES ARE:
JEANNIE FURROW OF SPRINGBROOK.
ERIN GRANT OF MILES.
JILL HEINRICH OF MAQUOKETA.
LINSEY HEISTER OF MAQUOKETA.
JANELL JOHNSON OF MAQUOKETA.
BROOKE KAHL OF BELLEVUE.
MEGAN REDMOND OF BERNARD.
KAYLA SIEVERING OF BELLEVUE.
KIMBERLY STRAIT OF PRESTON AND
KATELYN TILL OF MAQUOKETA,.

THE NAME OF THE WOMAN INJURED IN EDEN VALLEY PARK MONDAY
NIGHT HAS BEEN RELEASED. SHE IS ALICIA MAXWELL, AGE 22, OF
DUBUQUE. SHE WAS LEADING A CHURCH YOUTH GROUP ON A HIKE WHEN
SHE SLIPPED AND FELL 30 TO 40 FEET TO THE BOTTOM OF A BLUFF.
SHE IS AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS AND HER CONDITION IS NOT KNOWN.
HOSPITALS DO NOT GIVE OUT CONDITION REPORTS.

THE CITY COUNCIL MONDAY NIGHT AGREED TO SPEND AN ADDITIONAL
$2,250 TO PAY PAT CALLAHAN (FORMER MAQUOKETA CITY MANAGER) TO HELP
FIND A NEW PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR FOR THE CITY. THE FEE TO CALLAHAN
WILL NOW COME CLOSE TO $5,000. COUNCILMAN ED TURNEY ASKED
WHY THE MAQUOKETA CITY MANAGER COULD NOT DO THE HIRING AND SAVE THE MONEY. THERE WERE REASONS GIVEN, BUT TURNEY STILL VOTED
NO. I ALSO WOULD HAVE VOTED NO!

MAQUOKETA, IN 1936, HAD WARMER WEATHER THAN WE ARE HAVING
NOW...FOR OVER 10 DAYS. AND THEN, NO FANS OR AIR-CONDITIONERS!
IT WAS MAQUOKETA'S HOTEST SUMMER EVER!

GO AHEAD....RIGHT NOW....GET YOURSELF A COLD ONE FROM THE FRIG.
