FRIDAY DAILY

ON APRIL 19, 1993, 25 YEARS AGO YESTERDAY, THE GOVERNOR OF SOUTH DAKOTA,
GEORGE MICKELSON, AGE 52, DIED IN A PLANE CRASH AT RURAL ZWINGLE, IN
NORTHERN JACKSON COUNTY.    SEVEN OTHERS WERE KILLED INSTANTLY IN THE
3:30 IN THE AFTERNOON PLANE ACCIDENT IN A FARM FIELD.     I WAS THERE AND
COVERED THE STORY FOR KMAQ NEWS.    A MONTH LATER, A MUSHROOM HUNTER FOUND A PROPELLER NEAR THOMPSON, ILLINOIS AND THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD BLAMED A FAILED PROPELLER HUB FOR CAUSING THE CRASH.     JACKSON COUNTY WAS IN THE NATIONAL NEWS FOR A FEW DAYS.

THIS MOVIE HAS BEEN VERY POPULAR AROUND THE COUNTRY AND  HERE IN
KMAQ-LAND.   IT HAS BEEN HELD OVER FOR ANOTHER WEEK AT THE VOY THEATRE.

I OWN THE 3 FLOOR BUILDING DOWNTOWN THAT HAS THE VOY 3 BUILDING
IN THE BACK AND "FINDERS KEEPERS" BUSINESS TO THE FRONT.   THERE ARE
3 APARTMENTS ON THE 2ND FLOOR AND THE THIRD FLOOR IS EMPTY.    THIS
IS THE LARGE ROOM ON THE  3RD FLOOR THAT WAS THE MASONIC HALL AND
WHERE THE MAQUOKETA ASSEMBLY, ORDER OF THE RAINBOW GIRLS, MET.
THE ROOM TODAY IS JUST AS IT WAS IN THE 1950'S.    THE STAGE AT THE END
AND THE RAISED FLOOR AROUND THE ROOM FOR THE OFFICERS CHAIRS.
BELOW, THE PHOTO OF THE SEPTEMBER 1953 RAINBOW GIRLS TAKEN ON THAT
STAGE.     A $20 THEATRE GIFT CARD TO THE FIRST TO IDENTIFY ALL IN THE
PHOTO.    ON SECOND THOUGHT, THE NAMES ARE BELOW PHOTO.

59 DEGREES IN MAQUOKETA TODAY.
IN THE 60'S TOMORROW AND SUNDAY.
