THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR PARADE IS AT 6 TONIGHT. KMAQ WILL
BE BROADCASTING IT NATION-WIDE HERE ON OUR WEB-SITE. ON THE
HOME PAGE OF KMAQ, TURN-ON THE RADIO IN RIGHT LOWER CORNER.
WE MAY ALSO HAVE A "LIVE" WEB CAM OF IT AND IF SO, IT WILL BE
LOCATED ON KMAQ'S HOME PAGE. I WILL BE AT THE MIC DESCRIBING
THE PARADE AS IT GOES PAST THE KMAQ BUILDING. OUR FIRST FAIR
PARADE WAS IN 1959....AND WE'VE BROADCAST ALL OF THEM SINCE.
FOR ALL THE DETAILS ON THE FAIR, JUST "GOOGLE" JACKSON COUNTY
IOWA COUNTY FAIR. ADULT ADMISSION IS $12. SENIORS LESS.
IN 1965 KMAQ HAD A TALENT SHOW AT THE FAIR. THIS IS A PHOTO OF
JUDGES, DARLENE BRADY HAYES AND JIM WHALEN. DARLENE WAS A FORMER MISS MAQUOKETA AND JIM WAS THE HOST OF THE DAILY "DEWITT CALLING" SHOW ON KMAQ. HE DID IT "LIVE AND DIRECT" FROM HIS DEWITT
HOME. HE IS NO LONGER LIVING. HIS SON, RETIRED SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR, LIVES IN GUTTENBERG. DARLENE AND HUSBAND DAVE ARE SEMI-RETIRED IN MAQUOKETA AREA AND HAVE A HONEY BUSINESS.
AND AT LEFT IS JOHNNY WRIGHT (DIED MANY YEARS AGO) WHO I KNEW
AS A MEMBER OF THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB. HE PLAYED THE ORGAN
PROFESSIONALLY AND ONE TIME, PLAYED FOR THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND.
I THINK HE ALSO MIGHT HAVE BEEN A JUDGE BUT DO NOT SEE A CLIPBOARD IN HIS HANDS.
MAQUOKETA'S STREETSCAPE WAS DISCUSSED AT LENGTH AT MONDAY'S
CITY COUNCIL MEETING, WITH IIW ENGINEERS. THE MAIN AND QUARRY
STREET INTERSECTION (FIRST WORK TO BE DONE) IS ESTIMATED TO COST
$835,000. THE REST OF MAIN STREET, $2.6 MILLION.
IN SPORTS: THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD THIS WEEK APPROVED THE HIRING OF A NEW HEAD BOY'S TRACK COACH. NICHOLAS HIRSCH WILL REPLACE DANNY MAYO IN THAT POSITION. HE WILL ALSO BE 7TH GRADE
FOOTBALL COACH. HE TOOK PART IN TRACK AND FIELD AT WARTBURG COLLEGE AND HAS TWO YEARS OF COACHING EXPERIENCE.
THE BIX RUN IS THIS SATURDAY MORNING AT DAVENPORT.
