ADULTS AND KIDS.    LEAVE ONE ON THEIR FRONT STEP.    DON'T LET THEM
KNOW WHO GAVE IT....THEY WILL  HAVE FUN WONDERING ALL DAY WHO
DID.    AN ACT OF KINDNESS FROM ONE  FRIEND TO ANOTHER.

FAREWAY STORES HAS BEEN RANKED AS ONE OF THE TOP 5 GROCERY STORE CHAINS ACCORDING TO "CONSUMER REPORTS" MAGAZINE.
WEGMANS...EASTERN U.S. CHAIN RANKED #1.    FAREWAY HAD A SCORE
OF 84 RANKING HIGHEST IN FRESH MEAT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE.
FAREWAY, BASED IN BOONE, IOWA, HAS HAD A STORE IN MAQUOKETA
SINCE 1964.

LEIGHTON AND CINDY HEPKER WERE IN ST. LOUIS FOR THE ANNUAL
ST. LOUIS CARDINALS "AFFILIATE DAYS", SPONSORED ANNUALLY BY
BUDWEISER.   THEY SAW LAST NIGHT'S GAME AND THIS AFTERNOON'S GAME AND SAW THE CARDINALS (IN FIRST PLACE) WIN BOOTH.   OVER 100 STATIONS IN THE NETWORK ATTEND AND KMAQ HAS BEEN A NETWORK
STATION FOR 31 YEARS.      AT THE RECEPTION YESTERDAY, THEY GOT TO
MEET TIM McCARVER.    LEIGHTON IS IN PHOTO WITH TIM ABOVE AND UNDER THAT ONE, AN EARLIER PHOTO OF TIM.   TIM (NOW 73) WAS A VERY GOOD CATCHER FROM 1959 UNTIL 1980 AND CAUGHT FOR THE CARDINALS AND A COUPLE OTHER TEAMS AND THEN RETIRED FROM BASEBALL AND BECAME A VERY POPULAR BASEBALL TV COLOR COMMENTARY ANNOUNCER.

AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING THIS WEEK, BOB GAVIN AND BUDDY ATIENZA SPOKE ON BEHALF OF THE FRIENDS OF GOODENOW FIELD.
BIG PLANS TO REDO THE FIELD AND THEY EXPLAINED FUNDRAISING
PLANS, FOR THE FIELD AND THE FENCE AROUND IT.   MORE TO COME ON THIS.   THE SCHOOL BOARD IS PLANNING TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE
FUND RAISING CAMPAIGN.

AT THE SUPERVISORS MEETING..THIS WEEK..MORE DISCUSSION ON
THE EYESORES AROUND THE COUNTY....OLD CARS, TRACTORS,  ETC....
YARDS WITH A BAD APPEARANCE.    THERE ARE LAWS.

WEDNESDAY DAILY REPORT

SUNNY TODAY AND HIGH OF 72.
COOLER TOMORROW, HIGH OF 64.
SUNNY WITH A HIGH OF 69 ON FRIDAY.
SATURDAY, MOSTLY SUNNY AND 75.
AND 50% CHANCE OF RAIN SUNDAY.

THE FIRST EVER....SERVICE CLUB BANQUET....WAS HELD LAST NIGHT IN MAQUOKETA....
AT MICHEL'S HALL.    MARY ANN AND FAMILY STARTED OFF THE NIGHT
WITH A LAZAGNA (BEEF, CHEESE AND CHICKEN) DELICIOUS DINNER WITH
DESSERT.
OVER 50 ATTENDED AND I TOOK A PHOTO AT ALL 8  TABLES....
SALLY DAVIES WHO TAKES OVER AS PRESIDENT OF THE ROTARY JULY 1ST AND WAS ON THE COMMITTEE FOR LAST NIGHT'S  EVENT....WROTE A POEM WITH GARDEN SEEDS ATTACHED....
SCOTT WARREN IN RED, PRESIDENT OF THE ROTARY, WAS THE CHAIRPERSON FOR LAST NIGHT'S DINNER.    KIWANIS CHARTER MEMBER LEIGHTON HEPKER WAS EMCEE.     ROTARIAN ROGER STEWART
LED EVERYONE IN SINGING "SMILE AND THE WORLD SMILES WITH YOU"...
BY THE GROUP BELOW, MADE UP OF MEMBERS OF ALL 4 CLUBS.
THE PROGRAM WAS PRESENTED BY TOM DEVINE, SEATED (CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DIRECTOR AND LIONS CLUB MEMBER) AND CHUCK CURRENT OF OHNWARD BANKS (AND ROTARIAN)  AND CHAIRPERSON OF THE DOWNTOWN IMPROVEMENTS COMMITTEE.    THEY PRESENTED LOTS OF EXCITING PLANS FOR  DOWNTOWN, UNDER THE NEW HEADING, MAQUOKETA CAN DO.

TUESDAY DAILY REPORT

SUNNY, LIGHT WIND AND 72 TODAY.
MORE WEATHER LIKE IT THE REST OF THE WEEK.

ABOUT 50 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA BOARDS AND
COMMISSIONS BANQUET LAST NIGHT AT MICHELS HALL IN MAQUOKETA.
THE EVENT IT STAGED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL AS A WAY
OF THANKING THE MANY VOLUNTEERS WHO SERVE THE CITY ON VARIOUS
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS.    CITY MANAGER BRIAN WAGNER SERVED AS
EMCEE.   SEVEN RESIDENTS WERE RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR TENURE ON
BOARDS.   AT THE TOP OF THE LIST IS TOM BREUCH, RETIRED ATTORNEY.   HE HAS SERVED 40 YEARS ON THE LIBRARY BOARD.

THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD MET LAST NIGHT.    THE BOARD RECEIVED RESIGNATIONS FROM MARTY MARSHALL, HEAD SOPHOMORE BASKETBALL COACH....HOLLY PARMER, FRENCH TEACHER....AND ASHLEY JONES, CARDINAL ELEMENTARY ASSOCIATE.
RECOMENDATIONS FOR NEW STAFF:   MICHELLE LANHAM, HEAD FRESHMEN GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH....ANGELA RULEY 5TH GRADE GENERAL MUSIC...NANCY JOHNSON FOR FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE AND
DENISE SWANSON FOR POSITION OF EXECUTIVE SECRETARY.   ALL
RECOMMENDATIONS WERE APPROVED.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK IS NEXT WEEK!

IT IS THAT TIME OF THE YEAR TO ENJOY.....

MONDAY DAILY REPORT

 A BEAUTIFUL SPRING DAY TODAY...SUNSHINE AND MID 60'S, FOLLOWING AN INCH OF RAIN OVER THE WEEKEND.   THE REST OF THE WEEK WILL ALSO BE DRY AND WARMER, WITH 70-DEGREE WEATHER THIS WEEKEND.

THE OMELET BREAKFAST WAS ANOTHER HUGE SUCCESS AT CAMP
COURAGEOUS YESTERDAY.....THOUSANDS WERE SERVED BY 30
OMELET STATIONS.    AND IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO TOUR THE
MASSIVE GROUNDS.    A FEW PICTURES, INCLUDING ONE OF LONGTIME
BOARD MEMBER AND VOLUNTEER AT CAMP BREAKFASTS, MERLE HULSE OF
CLARENCE.    HE WAS A FORMER IOWA SENATOR AND IN YOUNGER
DAYS BOUGHT A CADDIE EVERY YEAR AT RASMUSSEN MOTOR SALES.
HE TOLD ME HE IS 91 AND A HALF AND WALKS A MILE EVERY DAY.
 SIGN ON ONE OF THE MANY BUILDINGS, ALL DONATED.
 ABOVE, LOOKING  UP TO THE MAIN BANQUET HALL.

 THE 3 YEAR OLD TRAIN, NOW GOES DOWN BY THE LAKE IN BACKGROUND.

MORE MONDAY REPORT , NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL, GOOSE LAKE

YESTERDAY, I ATTENDED THE OPEN HOUSE AT GOOSE LAKE FOR THE
NEW ADDITION TO THE HIGH SCHOOL.    VERY IMPRESSIVE WERE THE
NEW GYM AND 3 SCIENCE CLASSROOMS,  A STEM ROOM AND NEW CONCESSION AREA.
SUPT. JIM COX HAS BEEN THE HEAD MAN AT NORTHEAST FOR 22 YEARS AND
HAS MADE THE PRE-SCHOOL THROUGH 12TH GRADE BUILDINGS AND
ATHLETIC AREA INTO A CAMPUS  2ND TO NONE IN THE STATE OF IOWA.
A COUPLE YEARS AGO, COX AND HIS BOARD FINISHED BUILDING A
$6-MILLION AUDITORIUM FOR HIGH SCHOOL PLAYS AND CONCERTS AND
IT IS ONE OF IOWA'S FEW STORM SHELTERS, TORNADO PROOF.   IF A TORNADO WAS SPOTTED IN THE AREA, ALL STUDENTS  COULD BE
TAKEN THERE IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES.
SUPT. COX TOLD ME THE  2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR WILL BE HIS LAST AND HE WILL RETIRE.

MORE MONDAY REPORT-FFA BANQUET

SUNDAY NIGHT, APRIL 26TH, THE  MAQUOKETA FFA, ONE OF IOWA'S OLDEST AND BEST FFA CHAPTERS HELD THEIR  ANNUAL AWARDS EVENT AT SCHUELLER'S AUCTION FACILILTY.  NICE TURNOUT FOR THE CATERED PORK DINNER AT 6.
THE EVENT WAS CONDUCTED BY PRESIDENT CALE GENT, 3RD FROM RIGHT BELOW.
AND HIS TEAM OF OFFICERS ABOVE.    FFA ADVISOR GARY BRUNS (FINISHING HIS 13TH YEAR) IS AT LEFT.

ABOVE, THE NEW FFA PRESIDENT, MADISON LAPKE.

THE PROGRAM LAST NIGHT LASTED OVER 90-MINUTES.....AND INCLUDED  A VIDEO PRESENTATION ON SOME OF THE MANY  HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PAST YEAR.   I COULD HAVE TAKEN 50 PHOTOS.
CONGRATULATIONS TO GARY BRUNS, THE FFA MEMBERS, PARENTS AND FFA ALUMNI FOR MAKING THIS ANOTHER GREAT YEAR FOR
THE MAQUOKETA FFA.

NO SUNSHINE TODAY.    ON AND OFF RAIN AND THEN CONTINUOUS LATE THIS
AFTERNOON AND HIGH OF 62.     MORE OF SAME TOMORROW BUT SUNDAY,

THE 61 DRIVE-IN WAITING FOR CARS.    YES..EVEN ON RAINY NIGHTS, WE
SHOW THE MOVIES.    BUT,  THE RAIN WILL MAKE FOR A SLOW FRIDAY
NIGHT AND SATURDAY NIGHT.    DUNES WON'T BE BUSY.     NOTICE HOW
GREEN THE GRASS IT.
"STILL ALICE" STARTS TONIGHT AND FOR ONE WEEK ONLY AT THE VOY
THEATRE.    EXCELLENT MOVIE AND WE EXPECT A GOOD TURNOUT.

A MAJOR TELEPHONE LINE WAS SEVERED TODAY AT ELDRIDGE (ABOUT 10:30 THIS MORNING) AND IT WAS NOT REPAIRED UNTIL ABOUT 2.   LAND LINE
PHONE WERE NOT WORKING, INCLUDING NO LAND-LINE 9-1-1 SERVICE.
THIS WAS IN JACKSON COUNTY AND JONES COUNTY AND TWO OTHERS.
THANK GOODNESS FOR CELL PHONES.

THE FRIENDS OF THE MAQUOKETA CAVES STATE PARK ANNUAL BREAKFAST IS TOMORROW FROM 9 UNTIL 1 AT THE PARK.    PANCAKES AND HOME
MADE MAPLE SYRUP.       PLUS INTERESTING DISPLAYS.

DEWITT IS GETTING A NEW BUSINESS WITH A "GRAND OPENING" TOMORROW, DOWNTOWN, IN A LARGE (FORMER TRUE VALUE) BUILDING.
IT WILL FEATURE MANY BOOTH SPACES  RENTED TO  A VARIETY OF MERCHANTS.   A FEW PICTURES TAKEN YESTERDAY BY KMAQ SALES REP, LOIS FISCHER.
ERMA RAE IS THE BABY BEING HELD BY HER GRANDFATHER WHO IS THE FATHER OF HER MOTHER TRACY AND HE IS ALSO THE OWNER
OF THE BUSINESS.

SUNNY, LESS WIND AND 59 TODAY.
TOMORROW SHOULD BE ABOUT THE SAME,
BUT SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, LOTS OF RAIN  POSSIBLE..AND COOL.

THE DAC RECYCLING CENTER OUT IN THE INDUSTRIAL PARK  HELD A
TWO HOUR OPEN HOUSE YESTERDAY, EARTHDAY.    A FEW PHOTOS TAKEN THERE....

WORK ON MAQUOKETA STREETS IS UNDERWAY...
THE INTERSECTION OF N. VERMON AND W. QUARRY ON THE S. SIDE OF THE
HOSPITAL IS GOING TO BE RESURFACED.  
QUARRY ST. BETWEEN ARCADE AND PROPECT WILL BE CLOSED FOR
REPAIRS.   VERMONT BETWEEN EMMA COURT AND QUARRY WILL ALSO BE
CLOSED UNTIL WORK IS DONE.    AND,
GERMAN ST. S.OF THE PIZZA HUT
WILL HAVE A 140 FOOT STRETCH OF THE STREET REPLACED.  THERE WILL BE A DETOUR POSTED.
GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING AND TICKETS ON SALE HERE AT KMAQ UNTIL MAY 1ST.   SUPPORT VETERANS AND BUY A TICKET.

THE MAQUOKETA FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT PERMISSION FOR A COUPLE
REQUESTS CONCERNING THEIR BIG FIREMEN'S DANCE DOWNTOWN
WITH TWO BAND, ON JUNE 20TH.   MORE LATER ON THIS.   ANY QUESTIONS,
CALL FIREMAN GREG BOPES.

DON'T FORGET...THE BIG CAMP BREAKFAST IS THIS SUNDAY.    THOUSANDS
WILL ATTEND,  AT THE CAMP JUST ON THIS SIDE OF MONTICELLO, A HALF HOUR FROM MAQUOKETA.
