ABOUT ALL I SAW TODAY WAS SNOW PLOWS AND SNOW THROWERS.

COLD, VERY COLD, WEATHER COMING THIS WEEKEND.

THE FARM SHOW HAS GONE WELL SO FAR. DOWN FROM LAST YEARS, AS EXPECTED, BECAUSE OF THE ROADS. BUT, WE ARE SURE THOSE WHO COULD NOT MAKE IT TODAY WILL COME TOMORROW.

THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB AND THE AG COMMITTEE OF THE MAQUOKETA AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE GAVE OUT THEIR ANNUAL "FRIENDS OF AGRICULTURE" AWARDS AT 12:30 THIS AFTERNOON ON THE FARM SHOW STAGE.
THE AWARDS WERE PRESENTED BY WARREN JOHNSON, DIRECTOR OF THE LIMESTONE BLUFF RC & D OFFICE, AMBER MATHIESSEN, COUNTY EXTENSION DIRECTOR AND BANKER BRIAN SCHWAGER.
THE FARMER OF THE YEAR AWARD WENT TO BLAINE AND MARY BOCK, WHO HAVE HAD A 200 ACRE FARM JUST WEST OF MAQUOKETA FOR OVER 40 YEARS. BLAINE
HAS BEEN A FARM BUREAU MEMBER FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND BOTH HAVE BEEN
ACTIVE IN COUNTY AG RELATED ISSUES AND ORGANIZATIONS. TWO FINE CITIZENS AND WELL DESERVING OF THE AWARD. THE AG BUSINESS-INDUSTRY AWARD WENT TO PAUL TABOR OF DUBUQUE, OWNER OF TABOR HOME WINERY AT RURAL BALDWIN AND STATEWIDE AUTHORITY ON WINE MAKING. HE STARTED HIS WINERY ABOUT 12 YEARS AGO. AND THE AG PUBLIC-SERVICE AWARD WENT
TO JEANETTE KRUSE, OF RURAL PRESTON, WHO HAS WORKED FOR THE JACKSON COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE FOR 28 YEARS. ALL THREE RECEIVED A PLAQUE.
THE 2ND AND FINAL DAY OF THE KMAQ FARM AND HOME SHOW BEGINS AT 10:30 TOMORROW (FRI) MORNING. TOMORROW IS PORK DAY.

TODD AND AMY PECKOSH OF RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA, ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL
BORN JANUARY 24TH AT RAPID CITY. GRAND PARENTS ARE JERRY AND MARY ANN HEINZEL OF MAQUOKETA AND TOM AND PAM PECKOSH, FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA.

IF POSSIBLE, HOPE YOU CAN MAKE IT TO THE KMAQ FARM AND HOME SHOW.

THE SNOW ENDED AT 3:30 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. MAQUOKETA GOT 14 INCHES, SECOND ONLY IN EASTERN IOWA TO LOWDEN WITH 15 1/12. NO SCHOOL AT ALL IN THE KMAQ AREA TODAY. SNOW PLOWS ARE BUSY. THERE ARE NEW CARS UNDER THE SNOW ABOVE. THE KMAQ FARM AND HOME SHOW OPENS AT 10:30 THIS MORNING.
