WEDNESDAY DAILY REPORT

IT WAS KIND OF LIKE A SPRING DAY TODAY....SUNNY AND 49.
PEOPLE LOVED IT.

A GOOD KMAQ LONGTIME LISTENER SUNDAY WON $10,000 IN THE IOWA
LOTTERY.    VIRGIL WEIMERSKIRCH, RETIRED, LIVES WITH WIFE VERLA
ON THE BELLEVUE-CASCADE ROAD BETWEEN LAMOTTE AND BELLEVUE.
HE BOUGHT THE $2.00 "POLAR PAYOUT" TICKET AT CASEY'S IN BELLEVUE,
AT THE SUGGESTION OF THE CLERK THERE.

GOOD NEWS YESTERDAY, AT A BIDS OPENING, FOR THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA.
$3,649,412.48....IS THE LOW BID FOR THE DOWNTOWN STREET IMPROVEMENT
PROJECT FOR MAQUOKETA.     THAT BID WAS OVER ONE-MILLION DOLLARS
BELOW THE ENGINEER'S ESTIMATE.    THERE WERE 7 BIDS.   THE NEXT
LOWEST WAS FOR 4.65 MILLION DOLLARS...ABOUT A MILLION MORE THAN
THE LOWEST.    THE LOW BID WAS FROM AN ELDRIDGE COMPANY, K.E. FLATWORK,INC. OWNED BY ROD KLUEVER OR RURAL DELMAR.  HIS SON LUCAS IS ALSO INVOLVED IN THE BUSINESS.    MANY OF THEIR EMPLOYEES HAVE "TIES" TO THIS AREA.      ACCORDING TO THE COMPANY WEBSITE, K-E FLATWORK, INC. HAS PROVIDED OUTSTANDING SERVICE ANDA
RELIABLE WORKMANSHIP FOR ALL TYPES OF PROJECTS FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS.
THE CITY COUNCIL WILL STUDY THE BIDS AND VOTE ON THE MATTER.
THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BE DONE IN JUST ONE YEAR, 2016.

DR. MICHAEL RETALLICK, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN THE IOWA STATE

RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF SIX INDIVIDUALS ACROSS THE NATION TO RECEIVE
THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURE-EDUCATORS TEACHER-MENTOR AWARD.     RETALLICK IS A FORMER VO-AG INSTRUCTOR AND
FFA ADVISOR AT THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL.

BIG NIGHT COMING  UP FOR THE MAQUOKETA LIONS CLUB....
WE WENT TO THE MAQUOKETA CARDINAL BOY'S GAME AT MCHS GMY LAST NIGHT AND SAW THE CARDS WIN OVER ANAMOSA 81  TO 71.   THEIR RECORD NOW IS 3 AND 1.       ALSO LAST NIGHT, AT ANAMOSA, THE CARDINAL GIRLS
LOST A CLOSE ONE, 34 TO 32.   THEIR RECORD IS NOW 0 AND 5.
THE CARDINAL BOWLING TEAMS HOSTED BELLEVUE AND CAMANCHE AT TIMEBER LANES.     THE CARDINAL BOYS CAME UP ON TOP AND THE GIRLS
TOOK SECOND PLACE BEHIND CAMANCHE.

KMAQ-AM  HAS HAD THE 11:30 A.M.  POLKA PARTY SINCE GOING ON THE AIR
IN 1958.   WE ALSO HAVE A 2-HOUR MIDWEST-ORIGIN POLKA SHOW AT 3:30 SUNDAY AFTERNOONS.    POLKA MUSIC IS VERY POPULAR AND WE HAVE MANY AVID LISTENERS.    THERE ARE LOTS OF CHRISTMAS POLKAS TOO.
