THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB DUCK RACE  WAS HELD TONIGHT AT THE YMCA SWIMMING POOL.     OVER 800 DUCKS WERE IN THE RACE!    SHOWN
IN TOP PHOTO AT THE  START, JUST AFTER BEING PUT IN THE POOL.
THE NEXT PHOTO DOWN SHOWS THEM ON THEIR WAY TO THE FINISH
LINE, BEING ENCOURAGED BY SOME Y SWIMMERS.     THIRD PHOTO
DOWN, THE WINNERS HIT THE FINISH LINE AND THE 10 TOP TO PLACE
ARE TAKEN FROM THE POOL.    BOTTOM PHOTO, THE WINNER IS ANNOUNCED OVER KMAQ-AM BY ROTARIAN JOHN GILROY.    AND THE
WINNER WAS:
ANN OSTERHAUS OF MAQUOKETA, $500.00.   HER HUSBAND BOB IS A LONGTIME ROTARIAN AND HE BOUGHT THE DUCK FOR HER.
THE NEXT 9 FINISHERS EACH WON $100.00.

ATV'S WILL BE ALLOWED TO RIDE DOWN MAIN STREET IN MAQUOKETA ON JULY 7TH FOR A SPECIAL  RIDE SPONSORED BY THE COUNTY ATV GROUP.
THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL APPROVED THE FINAL READING OF AN
ORDINANCE WHICH WOULD ALLOW THE ATV'S TO RIDE ON MAIN STREET, BUT ONLY AS PART OF THE SPECIAL RIDES HOSTED BY THE ATV GROUP OF JACKSON COUNTY.   THE FUTURE RIDES REQUIRE REGISTRATION, THE ATV'S HAVE TO BE INSPECTED AND PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR HELMETS.

A VANDALISM REPORT MADE TO THE LAW CENTER IN MAQUOKETA.

EARLY THIS MORNING THAT SOMEONE VANDALIZED HER JEEP BY FLATTENING THE TIRES AND THREW A BRICK THROUGH TEH WINDSHIELD.

THE MAQUOKETA AREA FAMILY YMAC IS SEEKING A NEW PROGRAM
DIRECTOR TO REPLACE JAY SWENSON WHO HAS TAKEN A JOB AS THE ASSISTANT INTRAMURAL DIRECTOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS,
SPRINGFIELD.     SCOTT WARREN, YMCA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PRAISED
SWENSON'S WORK T THE Y.     SWENSON'S LAST DAY WILL BE JUNE 28TH.
HE IS A NATIVE OF DUBUQUE AND HIS FATHER IS A WRITER FOR THE
DUBUQUE TELEGRAPH HERALD.    WARREN SAID THEY ARE INTERVIEWING
NOW FOR THE POSITION OF PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND HOPE TO HAVE SOMEONE HIRED BY THE END OF JULY.

STATION WILL BE CLOSING AT NOON FRIDAY, JUNE 29TH TO BALANCE

IN BUSINESS NEWS, IT WAS ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT KARPINSKI ENTERPRISES HAS  SOLD THE MAQUOKETA INN AND SUITES  TO
SPIEGEL FAMILY REALTY OF PEOSTA.    KARPINSKI ENTERPRISES ALSO
OWNS THE MAQUOKETA McDONALDS AND IS NOT SELLING THE
RESTAURANT, JUST THE INN BEHIND McDONALDS.     THE INN WAS
BUILDT AS A SUPER 8 TWENTY-ONE YEARS AGO AND LESS THAN A YEAR AGO, CHANGED TO THE NEW NAME AND CONVERTED SOME ROOMS TO
SUITES.     SPIEGEL FAMILY REALTY OWNS THE OFFSHORE RESTAURANT, BAR AND EVENTS CENTER ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER SHORE AT THE NORTH EDGE OF BELLEVUE.    WORK RECENTLY STARTED ON A NEW 48 ROOM HOTEL ADJACENT TO THE RESTAURANT AND EVENTS CENTER.    A.J. SPIEGEL SAID ACQUISITION OF THE MAQUOKETA INN WILL BE A NATURAL TIE IN WITH HIS NEW  BELLEVUE MOTEL AT TIMES WHEN THERE ARE LARGE
EVENTS IN BELLEVUE AND MORE THAN 48 ROOMS ARE NEEDED FOR AN EVENT.   SPIEGEL ALSO OWNS THREE BUILDINGS IN MAQUOKETA'S  OLDEST  INDUSTRIAL PARK IN THE THIRD WARD.    STEVE MOORE OF MAQUOKETA
WAS THE BROKER FOR THE SALE OF THE INN AND SUITES.

JUST PUT UP YESTERDAY, THIS NEW DIGITAL SIGN ON THE CORNER OF THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS (WHERE THE OLD SIGN WAS)....JUNCTION
OF  HIGHWAYS 62 AND 64.    TWO OF THE MESSAGES I GOT WITH MY CAMERA....THE MESSAGE CHANGES  (AND ALTERNATE SEVERAL) EVERY COUPLE SECONDS.   LANNY SIMPSON, FAIR MANGER, IS REALLY HAPPY ABOUT THESE AND SHE'S GLAD SHE WILL BE ABLE   HAVE IT FOR THE UPCOMING FAIR.
NO MORE CLIMBING THE LADDER IN ALL KINDS OF WEATHER....SHE WILL JUST PROGRAM THE MESSAGES ON COMPUTER IN HER OFFICE.

A LITTLE EAST ON SIDE ROAD, OF BALDWIN...OWNED BY JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION.  OPEN BY APPOINTMENT.  FILLED WITH SCHOOL ITEMS
....MANY FROM DENNIS AND JANET STANG'S SCHOOL ON THEIR FARM.
