MOSTLY CLOUDY AND 24 THE HIGH TODAY.
LOW TONIGHT, 1 ABOVE.
TOMORROW, UPPER 20'S.
THEN COLD AGAIN SUNDAY.
KMAQ HAS RECEIVED WORD THAT VIRGINIA YOCUM, AGE 99, DIED FEB. 14TH AT FORT COLLINS, COLORADO WHERE SHE HAD LIVED NEAR FAMILY
SINCE MOVING FROM MAQUOKETA IN 2004. VIRGINIA AND HER LATE
HUSBAND DUDLEY OWNED AND OPERATED THE LOCAL WESTERN AUTO
STORE IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA FOR MANY YEARS.
I GOT A SHORT EMAIL FROM STEVE McAREAVY IN WEDDINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA. HE AND HIS WIFE ROBYN (SLATTERY) HAVE BEEN LIVING THERE
FOR 29 YEARS AND HE HAS A CHIROPRACTIC OFFICE THERE. HIS
LATE FATHER WAS A LONGTIME CHIROPRACTOR IN HIS OFFICE ACROSS
FROM THE MAQUOKETA LIBRARY. HIS MOTHER, EMOGENE, LIVES
IN VIERA, FLORIDA BY DAUGHTERS MARY AND KATE AND SHE JUST TURNED 91 AND IS DOING GOOD, SAYS STEVE. STEVE ALSO HELPED IDENTIFY
SOME OF THE OLD BUILDINGS IN THE PHOTOS BELOW. HE READS THIS DAILY REPORT REGULARLY. NICE HEARING FROM HIM. HIS DAD WAS A REGULAR IN OUR MORNING COFFEE GROUP AT THE DECKER.
AT AROUND 5 THIS AFTERNOON, I ATTENDED A MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE "AFTER BUSINESS HOURS" OPEN HOUSE AT THE NEW SCHUELLER AUCTION FACILITY IN MAQUOKETA, FORMERLY THE HOME
OF BANOWETZ ANTIQUESF, OWNED AND OPERATED BY BEN AND ABBY SCHUELLER.
THERE WAS A NICE TURNOUT AND IT IS A REALLY EXCELLENT, LARGE PLACE TO HAVE AUCTIONS.
ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO, THE BUILDING WAS A POPULAR ROLLER RINK AND
THE PADDED CURVED WALL IS STILL THERE. THEN LATER IT BECAME A
SMALL SHOPPING MALL AND LATER AGAIN, A BIG FURNITURE STORE, AND
LASTLY, BANOWETZ ANTIQUES.
BEN AND ABBY AND YOUNGEST BOY, JACK. THEY HAVE ANOTHER BOY,
AND A DAUGHTER TOO.
CONGRATULATIONS BEN AND ABBY ON A NICE NEW ADDITION TO THE MAQUOKETA BUSINESS COMMUNITY.
AND ONE FINAL NOTE: THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1965
IS PLANNING A 50TH CLASS REUNION. JAMES LUETT FROM CLINTON IS
WORKING ON IT AND IS LOOKING FOR THE ADDRESS OF JIM SMITH (SON OF DASIL AND IMOGENE SMITH) AND SUE HOLTRY, WHOSE DAD WAS THE MINISTER HERE FOR THE METHODIST CHURCH. IF YOU CAN HELP,
EMAIL JUDY BOWLING AT jbowling41@yahoo.com AND SHE WILL FORWARD THE INFORMATION TO JAMES.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.

HELP IDENTIFY....EMAIL ME.
GRAND OPERA HOUSE...WHERE?
PASTIME THEATRE 10 CENTS... DON'T KNOW WHY THAT SIGN IS THERE?
AN OIL WELL IN MAQUOKETA??
THAT LONG BUILDING TO LEFT WITH TWELVE 2ND STORY WINDOWS?
LOOK AT ALL THE HIGH-WIRE POLES RIGHT DOWN MAIN STREET.
I DON'T RECOGNIZE THE CORNER BUILDING TO THE RIGHT, WITH 4 UPPER WINDOWS.
NOTICE BOARD WALK-WAYS ACROSS THE STREET IN SOME PHOTOS.
LOOKS LIKE TWO, OR MAYBE JUST ONE BIG, GROCERY STORE.
WHERE LOCATED??
MAQUOKETA HAD A LOT OF IRON RAILINGS ON UPPER PORCHES.
NOTICE THE BRICK STREET.
SEE THE WOOD WALKWAYS ACROSS THE STREET. WONDER WHAT
THE BIG BUILDING IS ON RIGHT SIDE, AT THE UPPER END OF PHOTO?
LIGHT COLOR.
THERE IS IT...THE FAMOUS TOWN CLOCK.
