NO WEDNESDAY DEC 31, 2014 DAILY NEWS REPORT TODAY

COLD TODAY.   0 LAST NIGHT.

THIS WEEKEND, AND EARLY NEXT WEEK, WE WILL BE INSTALLING THE
DIGITAL EQUIPMENT IN THE VOY 3 THEATRE, TO REPLACE THE 35MM
FILM EQUIPMENT.     THERE WILL BE A NEW DIGITAL (NO FILM) PROJECTOR AND A NEW SURROUND-SOUND (9 SPEAKERS) SYSTEM IN THE AUDITORIUM.  A FIRM FROM DES MOINES WILL ASSEMBLE THE EQUIPMENT IN THE VOY 3
BOOTH AND INSTALL THE SOUND EQUIPMENT, WITH ASSISTANCE LOCALLY
BY CASIE CASAL AND TOM MESSERLI.     IF ALL GOES WELL, THE NEW
EQUIPMENT WILL BE USED FOR THE FIRST TIME A WEEK FROM THIS
FRIDAY.    THE VOY 1 THEATRE AND THE 61 DRIVE-IN ALREADY HAVE
DIGITAL PROJECTORS.    THE VOY 2 THEATRE WILL GET THE PROJECTOR
AND RELATED EQUIPMENT NEXT SUMMER.    THERE IS A LOT TO THE
CONVERSION PROCESS USING BOXES OF EQUIPMENT STORED IN OUR LOBBY.... SHOWN IN PHOTOS BELOW.
IF I DID NOT PURCHASE THIS EQUIPMET, THE THEATRES WOULD EVENTUALLY
BE CLOSED, AS ONLY SOME MOVIES ON 35MM FILM WILL BE AVAILABLE ON A LIMITED SCALE FOR A FEW MORE MONTHS, AT THE MOST.
MY TOTAL INVESTMENT WHEN COMPLETED WILL BE AROUND $250,000.
BUT NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, THE DIGITAL PICTURE AND SOUND IS BEAUTIFUL.
NOW, HOPEFULLY MAQUOKETA AND AREA RESIDENTS WILL CONTINUE TO
ENJOY MOVIES ON THE BIG LOCAL SCREENS, INSTEAD OF ON  TV.

CHECK PHOTOS BELOW, TAKEN TODAY DURING SHERI MELVOLD'S FINAL DAY AT KMAQ AS NEWS DIRECTOR.   SHE'S RETIRING BUT PLANS PART TIME
NEWS REPORTING.

THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MADE SEVERAL APPOINTMENTS THIS MORNING.
DR. DON YANDA WAS APPOINTED TO THE JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD REPLACING ANNE HAWKS WHO DID NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION TO
A FIVE YEAR TERM.     THERE WERE FOUR APPLICANTS.
ALSO NAMED TO THE CONSERVATION BOARD, NEW SUPERVISOR LARRY McDEVITT  (REPRESENTING THE BOARD) TO REPLACE STEVE FLYNN WHO RETIRES DECEMBER 31ST AS A SUPERVISOR.    McDEVITT WON THE
ELECTION TO THE BOARD IN NOVEMBER.

THE SUPERVISORS ALSO ARE LOOKING AT SEVERAL WAYS TO FIRM-UP
SECURITY IN THE NEW YEAR AT THE COURT HOUSE.  MORE ON THAT
ON A LETER DAILY REPORT.

KMAQ'S NEW "NEWS DIRECTOR" IS CODY BARNES FROM WYOMING, IOWA.
MORE ON HIM AND A PHOTO LATER THIS WEEK.    HE HAS ALREADY
STARTED WORKING.      IN ADDITION TO NEWS, HE WILL ALSO BE ON-THE-
AIR AS A MORNING ANNOUNCER FOR AN HOUR EARLY EACH MORNING
ON KMAQ-FM STATION.      SHERI MELVOLD'S LAST DAY IS TOMORROW.
SHERI AND I HAVE HAD A GOOD WORK RELATIONSHIP HERE AT KMAQ OVER 17 YEARS AND I WILL MISS THAT.     SHE HAS WRITTEN THOUSANDS
OF NEWS STORIES AND INTERVIEWED HUNDREDS OF CITIZENS.
AND SHE WILL BE DOING SOME PART TIME NEWS WRITING FOR LOCAL
AND AREA PAPERS IN THE FUTURE.   BEFORE KMAQ,  NEWSPAPER WRITING WAS HER GAME, STARTING IN ARIZONA AND THEN HERE IN IOWA.    I HIRED HER TO START THE "JUST TALK"  SHOW, WHICH SHE DID IN 1997 AND WHEN A LITTLE LATER WE HAD THE NEWS JOB OPEN UP, SHE APPLIED FOR THAT AND  MOVED UP TO FULL TIME IN 1998.    MY BEST TO HER IN 2015.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
COME BACK FOR THE FINAL DAILY REPORT OF 2014 TOMORROW.

TILL'S FLOORING & CARPENTRY OPENED THIS WEEK

IT IS OPEN....AND IT IS NICE!    CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. AND MRS. TODD TILL ON THEIR EXPANSION.    TODD HAS BEEN IN THE FLOOR COVERING BUSINESS A LONG TIME, WORKING OUT OF HIS  HOME.     SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, TODD BOUGHT THE CARPET PART OF THE OLD LUMBER YARD FROM PAUL HAHLE AND NOW HANDLES A FULL LINE OF CARPET IN THE BUILDING
HE PURCHASED AND REMODELED.     THE BUILDING WAS THE T 'n T CONE
SHOP, WAS REMODELED BY TODD AND THE DAY IT WAS TO OPEN THIS SUMMER,  A FIRE STARTED AND THE WEST PART WAS A TOTAL LOSS.
NOW THAT PART IS NEW,  A LITTLE LARGER AND TALLER, AND I WAS SURPRISED AT HOW BIG THE WAREHOUSE IS.    AND PAUL HAHLE'S GIFT
STORE IS NOW MUCH LARGER WITH THE CARPET GONE.
BELOW, OWEN  HINZ OF MAQUOKETA, YOUR HOST AT THE STORE.  HE
WORKED FOR PAUL ACROSS THE STREET FOR 10 YEARS AND WILL BE HAPY TO SHOW YOU AROUND.    HE ADDS CARPET KNOWLEDGE TO THE BUSINESS
TO GO ALONG WITH HARDWOOD KNOWLEDGE BY TODD.
I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT, NOTHING CHANGES THE APPEARANCE OF A ROOM
LIKE A NEW FLOOR DOES.
MAYBE THERE IS A NEW FLOOR  FOR YOU IN 2015?
STOP IN SOON AT TILL'S AND WATCH AND LISTEN FOR THEIR GRAND OPENING.
BECAUSE OF A COMPUTER-INTERNET ISSUE, THERE WILL BE NO WEDNEDAY DAILY REPORT TODAY!   SORRY!
