A MAQUOKETA VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER AND A MAQUOKETA CITY
COUNCILMAN ARE BEING CREDITED WITH SAVING THE LIFE OF A WHEELCHAIR-BOUND RESIDENT. A FIRE BROKE OUT AT HIS HOME
AT 4:30 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT 504 WEST GROVE STREET, RENTED BY HIM, HARVEY UNTIEDT. UNTIEDT, ALONE IN THE HOME, WAS UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE ON HIS OWN BUT ABLE TO CALL 9-1-1 TO SUMMON FIREMEN. VOLUNTEER MATT TRANEL LIVES BEHIND UNTIEDT'S HOME AND CITY COUNCILMAN COREY SIMONSEN LIVES NEARBY AND BOTH WENT
DIRECTLY TO THE BURNING HOME AND GOT UNTIEDT OUT THE OF HOUSE.
THE TWO CRAWLED IN TO THE HOME, HEARD UNTIEDT COUCHING IN THE KITCHEN AND GOT HIM OUT. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE NEARBY HOSPITAL
FOR TREATMENT. NEITHER TRANEL OR SIMONSON WERE HURT. CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS NOT DETERMINED BUT IT DID START NEAR THE CHRISTMAS
TREE. THERE WAS MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE HOME.
LOCAL ARTIST ROSE FRANTZEN'S PORTRAIT OF MAQUOKETA HAS BEEN
ACQUIRED BY THE FIGGE ART MUSEUM IN DAVENPORT AND WILL OFFICIALLY BE PART OF THE PERMANENT COLLECTION, BEGINNING IN 2015.

SATURDAY NIGHT, THE 60TH ANNUAL ADVENT SING WAS PUT ON AT OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER. IT WA STARTED BY JANIS FARNUM IN CENTER ABOVE. AT LEFT, PAM CRAWFORD TOOK OVER AFTER JANIS
RETIRED AND AT RIGHT, JOEL HAGEN HAS BEEN THE MCHS VOCAL MUSIC
DIRECTOR THE LAST 8 YEARS. ALL THREE WERE PRESENTED A
MUSICAL GLO-GLOBE DURING A BREAK IN SATURDAY NIGHT'S EVENT.
