DIANNE RATHJE (MRS.  VIC) OF AMANA RECENTLY FOUND AN OLD
MAQUOKETA NEWSPAPER IN HER GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE,
FEBRUARY 15TH PAPER, AND SENT IT TO ME.     RONANN'S FLORAL
SHOP THIS MONTH CELEBRATED ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY ON WEST
PLATT IN MAQUOKETA AND WAS STARTED BY DIANNE'S MOTHER AND
FATHER, RON AND ANN MEADE.    HER SISTER WENDY STILL RUNS THE BUSINESS AND 3 FLOWER POTS FROM THE STORE ARE AT MY 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE EVERY SUMMER, NEXT TO THE CONCESSION STAND.    AS A
YOUNG KMAQ RADIO SALESMAN (ALONG WITH ANNOUNCING) I CALLED
ON RON AND ANN WEEKLY FOR RADIO ADS.   I ALWAYS ENJOYED MY VISITS.
ANN WAS QUITE INTERESTED IN (AND HAD SEVERAL) FOREIGN EXCHANGE
STUDENTS FOR MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL.   VIC WAS A BANKER HERE
UNTIL THEY MOVED TO THE AMANAS.   NOW RETIRED, THEY BOTH LISTEN
TO KMAQ NEWSCASTS ON THE "STREAMING" RADIO ON KMAQ'S HOME PAGE,
WWW.KMAQ.COM.    BELOW, AN AD FROM THAT PAPER.
RAY KROEGER OWNED THE BUSINESS FOR MANY YEARS.   IT WAS GOING STRONG WHEN I CAME TO TOWN IN 1958 AND I KNEW RAY, WHO WAS AN
EARLY KMAQ ADVERTISER.   HE WAS ALSO A LONGTIME MEMBER OF THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIRBOARD.   HIS SALE BARN WAS ON WEST SUMMIT
STREET AND BURNED TO THE GROUND.   IT WAS REBUILDT AND IS STILL IN BUSINESS AND OWNED BY BOB LARKEY AND LOCATED FARTHER WEST ON SUMMIT UP ON THE HILL.    THE DAY OF THIS SALE IN 1945, BOB LARKEY
WAS A LITTLE BABY, NOT A YEAR OLD, BUT  LOOKING FORWARD TO
SALE DAYS AHEAD.  IN FACT, HE STARTED WORKING FOR RAY WHEN HE WAS 14 YEARS OLD.    THANKS FOR THE PAPER DIANE.   I WILL PUT OTHER
