COUNTY ENGINEER CLARK SCHLOZ OF MAQUOKETA ISSUED A REMINDER
TO FARMERS NOT TO OVERLOAD THE MANURE WAGON. HE SAID THERE
HAVE BEEN QUITE A FEW MANURE SPILLS ON COUNTY ROADS, BECAUSE
FARMERS ARE OVERLOADING THEIR MANURE SPREADER. COUNTY
CREWS HAVE TO GO OUT AND CLEAN UP THE MESS OF A SPILL.
THE COUNTY CAN BILL THE PROPERTY OWNER FOR THIS WORK.
THE COUNTY YESTERDAY HIRED MIKE BABCOCK AS A COUNTY MECHANIC
AT $19.92 TO START AND AN INCREASE TO $20.16 AFTER PROBATION.
REBECCA KUTCH WAS HIRED AS A NEW EMPLOYEE IN THE TREASURER'S
OFFICE. SHE WILL START OUT IN THE DRIVER'S LICENSE OFFICE.
BOB MOTTET OF MAQUOKETA WAS NAMED AT THE TREASURER'S REP ON THE
COUNTY COMPENSATION BOARD.
AND THERE WERE SIX APPLICANTS FOR THE COUNTY WEED COMMISSIONER
PART-TIME JOB. ALSO SEVEN APPLIED FOR THE VOLUNTEER OPENING
ON THE COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD. THE SUPERVISORS WILL
FILL THOSE TWO POSITIONS AT NEXT WEEK'S MEETING.
FORMER COUNCILMAN TODD MANG WAS APPOINTED TO THE CITY COUNCIL
LAST NIGHT. HE IS THE OWNER OF T-N-T CONE SHOP IN MAQUOKETA.
AND DAWN PAUL, OF MAQUOKETA, (POSTMASTER IN LOWDEN) WAS
APPOINTED TO THE MAQUOKETA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC UTILITY BOARD.
SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE TO APPLY FOR THAT VOLUNTEER POSITION.
JACKSON COUNTY REPUBLICANS GAVE THE MOST VOTES (30 PERCENT) TO
RON PAUL LAST NIGHT. MITT ROMNEY CAME IN SECOND WITH 23 PERCENT.
RICK SANTORUM 3RD WITH 21 PERCENT.
