THE 2014 JACKSON COUNTY FAIR QUEEN WAS NAMED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON DURING CEREMONIES AT THE FAIRGROUNDS. SHE IS GABRIELLA MARTINS, DAUGHTER OF ERIC AND DEANNA MARTENS OF WYOMING. SHE WILL BE STARTING HER SECOND YEAR THIS FALL AT
IOWA STATE. BEFORE COLLEGE, SHE SHOWED FOR 9 YEARS AT THE
JACKSON COUNTY FAIR.
FIRST RUNNERUP WAS SARA REDMON OF BERNARD.
A TIE FOR 2ND RUNNERUP BETWEEN MARISSA TILL OF MAQUOKETA
AND ALLISON KILBURG OF BELLEVUE. MARRISSA'S PARENTS ARE
ALAN AND KAREN TILL MAQUOKETA. THE 7 CANDIDATES CHOSE MONTANA MUSEL AS MISS CONGENIALIY, THE DAUGHTER OF DARIN AND MARY MUSEL OF MAQUOKETA.
THE "FAIR FAMILY" WILL BE RICHARD AND ELAINE HUENKE FAMILY OF NORTHERN JACKSON COUNTY.
AND THE PARADE MARSHALL WILL BE JC ENGEL OF MAQUOKETA, WHO FIRST SHOWED PIGS AT THE 1948 JACKSON COUNTY FAIR. THE LONGTIME
FARMER HAS BEEN ACTIVE AT THE FAIR IN MANY POSITIONS AND WAS
A JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISOR FOR 16 YEARS.
IN SPORTS, THE MAQUOKETA BOYS LOST TO DEWITT FRIDAY NIGHT
HERE IN MAQUOKETA, LOOSING BY ONE RUN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 7TH AND FINAL INNING.
THREE ACCIDENTS OVER THE WEEKEND AND ALL THREE HAD INJURIES.
AROUND 4 P.M. FRIDAY, A ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON DARK HOLLOW ROAD
RESULTED IN SEVERAL GOING TO THE HOSPITAL. THE DRIVER WAS KYLE EHLERS, 17, OF MAQUOKETA. HE SWERVED TO NOT HIT A DEER AND SLID OFF THE ROAD AND STRUCK A FENCE. $8,000 DAMAGE TO THE 2006 BUICK.
KYLE AND PASSENGERS WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES. PASSENGERS WERE RANDAL WILMOT, 16, OF MAQUOKETA, ALEX DAGUE, 17, OF MAQUOKETA, DEVIN EHLERS, 16, OF MAQUOKETA AND AUSTIN HARWICK, AGE 18, OF MAQUOKETA.
AT 3:50 A.M. SATURDAY, CHELSEA MAYER OF CLINTON, AGE 25, WAS TAKEN TO MERCY IN CLINTON FOLLOWING AN ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 67 AT HIGHWAY 64. SHE LOST CONTROL, RAN OFF THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED TWICE. SHE WAS TRAPPED INSIDE AND HAS TO BE EXTRICATED.
$10,000 DAMAGE TO THE 2005 SUBARU.
AT 12:11 THIS MORNING, JOSHUA COWAN, AGE 19, OF MAQUOKETA COULD NOT MAKE A CURVE AND RAN OF THE ROAD....THEN ROLLED A LEAST ONCE. HE WAS CHARGED. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN MAQUOKETA WITH POSSIBLE INJURIES. ALSO INJURED, JERROD COWAN OF MAQUOKETA. $10,000 DAMAGE TO THE 82 PICK-UP.
