MOSTLY CLOUDY AND HIGH AGAIN OF 74.

A WELL KNOWN MAQUOKETA BUSINESSMAN DIED ABOUT 8:30 LAST NIGHT AT A DAVENPORT HOSPITAL, WHERE HE HAD BEEN A PATIENT FOR ABOUT A WEEK. JOHN FAGERLAND HAS HAD HEALTH PROBLEMS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, BUT ALWAY FOUGHT BACK. HE WOULD HAVE BEEN 82 MONDAY.
WHEN HE COULD, HE WOULD STILL SPEND SOME TIME AT HIS BANK OFFICE.
HE AND ED TUBBS BECAME PARTNERS AND BOUGHT THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK IN THE MID 60'S AND THEY HAD MUCH SUCCESS IN BANKING.
JOHN WAS A FRIEND FOR ALL THE YEARS.....HIS OFFIC WAS NEXT DOOR TO KMAQ'S BUILDING, AND HIS HOME UP THE STREET FROM MINE. I SAW HIM DURING THE WEEK AND ON SUNDAYS AT FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH.
WE WERE IN ROTARY TOGETHER AND HE HAS SERVED WITH ME ON THE PEARSON MEMORIAL BOARD.......HE WAS A HARD WORKER, A BIG SUPPORTER OF MAQUOKETA AND THE AREA....AND A GOOD GUY. HE WILL BE MISSED! HIS COMPLETE OBITUARY SHOULD SOON BE ON THE CARSON WEB SITE AT www.carsonandson.com.

PHYLLIS GERLACH HAS RESIGNED AS COUNTY RECORDER EFFECTIVE JUNE 16TH, AFTER 8 YEARS. SHE HAS SOLD HER ANDREW HOME AND WILL MOVE TO NORTH LIBERTY TO BE CLOSE TO HER TWO DAUGHTERS.
THE SUPERVISORS WILL DISCUSS THE MATTER AT A SPECIAL WORK SESSION NEXT WEEK. THEY HAVE SEVERAL OPTIONS FOR HER REPLACEMENT.

TROY RIORDAN OF MAQUOKETA, WON $50,000 PLAYING THE IOWA LOTTERY NEW "LUCKY 7 GAME"....THE FIRST TO WIN BIG MONEY WITH THE NEW GAME, A COMBINATION OF A SCRATCH AND PULL-TAB GAME.
HE PURCHASED THE WINNING TICKET AT CASEY'S IN MAQUOKETA AND CLAIMED HIS CASH AT THE LOTTERY CEDAR RAPIDS OFFICE. HE PLANS TO PAY SOME BILLS, BUY A NEW TV AND A NEW BED.

OFF WITH GRAND-DAUGHTER SARA TO THE ANNUAL PYTHIAN PANCAKE AND SAUSAGE SUPPER AT THE PYTHIAN HALL ON SOUTH JONES. THEY ALWAYS HAVE A BIG TURN-OUT FOR IT.

HAVE A GOOD TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.
