NANCY AND I ATTENDED THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS OMELET BREAKFAST THIS
MORNING AT SACRED HEART CATHOLIC SCHOOL IN MAQUOKETA. IT WAS BUSY...
WE HAD TO WAIT IN LINE ABOUT 15 MINUTES. CATHOLICS DON'T MIND MAKING
ME, A LUTHERAN, WAIT IN LINE...LOL SHOWN HERE, RON BURNETT(BURNETT-THIEL FORD) AND FLORIAN STEFFEN(MAQUOKETA STATE BANK) DOING OUR OMELETS. BOTH ARE EXPERTS, HELPING WITH THIS EVENT A COUPLE TIMES A YEAR, FOR AROUND 20 YEARS. RON WAS HAPPY TO REPORT THAT HIS TEST-DRIVE-A-FORD EVENT HELD YESTERDAY REACHED ITS GOAL (WENT OVER
A LITTLE) AND RAISED $6,000+ FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL. THE SECOND TIME IN 3 YEARS HE HAS ARRANGED FOR THIS FUND RAISER FOR THE SCHOOL. A THANK-YOU TO RON AND BOB. NANCY AND I ATE BREAKFAST WITH TOM AND NANCY MILLER. WITH KIDS IN FOOTBALL, THEY WATCHED AROUND 30 CARDINAL FOOTBALL GAMES THIS EXCITING FALL FOOTBALL SEASON IN MAQUOKETA.
NEXT, BASKETBALL..JUST AROUND THE CORNER. AS ALWAYS, FOR ANY PHOTOS IN THIS DAILY REPORT...IF YOU CLICK-ON THE PHOTOS A COUPLE OR THREE TIMES,YOU WILL GET THE PHOTOS TO ENLARGE.

JULIE STREETS, WAITING AS MARK INTLEKOFER MAKES HER OMELET. JULIE, WIFE
OF DENNIS, FOR AROUND 20 YEARS RAN A NEAT GIFT STORE JUST UP THE STREET
FROM KMAQ....JULIE'S KOUNTRY KRAFTS. THIS WAS IN THE 80'S AND 90'S.
SHE EVEN SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. WHY WERE
THE NAMES IN HER BUSINESS SPELLED WITH A K? BECAUSE SHE WAS A
KUHL GIRL FROM MILES AND GRADUATED FROM MILES HIGH SCHOOL. HER FOLKS
WERE MR. AND MRS. RAYMOND KUHL AND RAYMOND, NOW 94, IS A VETERAN, SERVING
IN WORLD WAR II. THOSE WERE REALLY FUN, BUSY RETAIL DAYS IN DOWNTOWN
MAQUOKETA WHEN JULIE HAD HER STORE. AND OF COURSE, SHE ADVERTISED ON
KMAQ. THAT'S ONE REASON SHE WAS IN A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS SO LONG.
SHE DIDN'T NEED TO CLOSE HER STORE, SHE DESERVED TO RETIRE.

WAITING IN LINE GO GET THEIR OMELET MADE, RON DELAGARDELLE(RIGHT) AND DENNIS
STREETS, BOTH LONGTIME MAQUOKETA TEACHERS. DENNIS OF COURSE WAS IOWA'S
TOP SOPHOMORE BASKETBALL COACH FOR MANY YEARS AND FINISHED HIS CAREER
AS DEAN OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. RON, BESIDES TEACHING, FOR MANY YEARS
DID KMAQ'S CARDINAL COUNTDOWN SHOW FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL...WAS THE
STAR IN MANY PEACE PIPE PLAYERS PRODUCTIONS... AND WAS EVEN IN THE MOVIE
"FIST", CO-STARRING WITH SYLVESTER STALLONE.

THE YOUTH ARE BEING TAUGHT TO MAKE OMELETS SO THIS BREAKFAST WILL GO
ON FOR ANOTHER 20 YEARS. HERE IS MARCUS PRULL DOING A GOOD JOB.
HIS DAD RICK, NEXT TO HIM, GIVING ENCOURAGEMENT.

AS WE WERE BOTH LEAVING SACRED HEART SCHOOL, JOHN DAGUE WAS JUST COMING
IN TO THE DINING ROOM TO EAT. DOESN'T HE LOOK SHARP. TIE AND ALL.
DON'T SEE A LOT OF TIES THESE DAYS. I HAVE KNOWN JOHN FOR FORTY YEARS.
WE WERE BOTH IN THE OLD LION'S CLUB AND BOTH BOTH WORKED ON MANY PROJECTS.
REMEMBER WHEN HE WORKED FOR ORLA DAVIS CLOTHIERS DOWNTOWN, THAT BUILDINIG
WAS ONE OF THREE THAT BURNED DOWN. THEN HE BOUGHT FROM WILBUR, THE
CORNELIUS FARM STORE BUSINESS ON EAST PLATT, THAT IS NOW B & C LIQUOR.
HE MOVED THAT OUT TO A BUILDING SOUTH OF TOWN ON OLD HIWAY 61 AND IS STILL
THERE TODAY WITH HIS FINE DAGUE IMPLEMENT BUSINESS. KEEPS MY 50'S ALLIS
CHALMERS TRACTOR WITH BELLY-MOWER GOING THAT WE USE TO MOW THE 61 DRIVE-IN
6 ACRES. JOHN HAS A GOOD RADIO VOICE TOO AND EMCEES MANY EVENTS, IS
AN FFA SUPPORTER AND DOES A LOT FOR THE COMMUNITY AND LOCAL AGRICULTURE.
THAT OMELET BREAKFAST HE IS ABOUT TO ENJOY IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST BREAKFAST BARGAINS AROUND, TWICE A YEAR, FOR JUST $6...INCLUDES THE OMELET, TOAST,
SWEET ROLL, JUICE AND COFFEE. EDDIE SEEBERGER BUTTERED MY TOAST.
