IT WAS HOT OVER THE WEEKEND AND HOT TODAY...TODAY ALSO WINDY, WITH HIGH
IN THE 90'S.

FIRST OFF...I'M A GRANDFATHER AGAIN. HAPPY TO REPORT THAT RICK AND SHERI VOY HAD A 7-POUND BOY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT GENESIS EAST HOSPITAL AT DAVENPORT. KRIS IS THEIR 2ND CHILD AND SISTER CASSIE, AGE 7, IS
DELIGHTED WITH HER NEW BROTHER. WE SAW HIM TODAY AND HE'S A KEEPER ALL THE WAY...BLACK HAIR AND GOOD VOICE...SHOULD MAKE IT AS A RADIO ANNOUNCER SOME DAY. HE'S GRANDCHILD NUMBER 5 FOR NANCY AND I. THE OLDEST, SARA CLASEN, GRADUATED FROM MCHS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON ON THE PLUSH GREEN LAWN JUST EAST OF THE HIGH SCHOOL. WARM DAY, BUT NICE BREEZE, FOR AROUND 15- HUNDRED PEOPLE ON HAND. ABOUT 700 IN CHAIRS, ANOTHER 5 HUNDRED IN BLEACHERS AND MANY BROUGHT THEIR LAWN CHAIRS. I BROADCAST IT ON KMAQ-AM AND THE SERVICE WENT JUST OVER AN HOUR. CHRISTINA PETAROS WAS NAMED VALIDICTORIAN WITH A PERFECT 4.0 GRADE POINT AVERAGE. SHE IS DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. TOM PETAROS, BOTH LONGTIME MAQUOKETA TEACHERS. THE VALIDICTORIAN IS JEREMY CRAWFORD, AND HIS GPA WAS 3.968. HIS PARENTS ARE MR.AND MRS. KENT CRAWFORD. KENT IS THE LONGTIME HIGH SCHOOL BAND TEACHER.
SPEAKERS WERE: STUDENTS ANDY HAMILTON AND JEREMY CRAWFORD, SUTP. KIM HUCKSTADT AND BOARD PRESIDENT BILL SCHWENKER. COMMENTS ALSO BY RETIRING PRINCIPAL LORENE DKYSTRA. 144 SENIORS MADE UP THE CLASS OF 2004.
AFTER GRADUATION CEREMONIES, GRANDDAUGHTER SARA AND HER GOOD FRIEND, MISSY GERLACH (FELLOW EMPLOYEE AT THE 61 DRIVE-IN) HAD A JOINT PARTY AT THE DRIVE-IN. HAD A COUPLE TENTS AT THE REAR AND THE JACKSON COUNTY
CATTLEMEN KEPT BUSY FOR HOURS GRILLING OVER 700 BURGERS. HAD A NICE
TIME AND MANY STAYED FOR THE MOVIES AT DUSK. LONG BUT FUN DAY FOR NANCY AND I. GOT TO BED AFTER MIDNIGHT, TOO LATE FOR A GUY NOW ON SOCIAL SECURITY...AND 5:30 A.M. COMES UP FAST.

MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE ATTENDED A P.O.W. PROGRAM (LOCAL WW2 POW'S WERE
FEATURED SPEAKERS) YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MUSEUM ON THE FAIRGROUNDS.
VERY GOOD TURNOUT.

AT 9 A.M. SATURDAY, 75-80 PEOPLE SHOWED UP AT THE OWNWARD FINE ARTS AUDITORIUM BEING CONSTRUCTED ON EAST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA TO HELP CARRY IN A 4,000 POUND STEEL BEAM. 100 WERE NEEDED. KMAQ DID BROADCAST OF THE EVENT AND MADE A PLEA FOR MORE LIFTERS AND OVER 20 MORE SHOWED UP. TOTAL OF 104 CARRIED THE BEAM INTO THE BUILDING WITH NO PROBLEM. LOTS OF GOOD COVERAGE FROM THE MEDIA INCLUDING QUAD CITY TV.

TWO MAQUOKETA RESIDENTS WERE CHARGED VERY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING WITH HAVING MATERIALS TO MAKE METHAMPHETAMINE AFTER BEING STOPPED BY DEPUTY SHERIFF KEVIN SCOTT, ON HIGHWAY 62 NEAR ANDREW. THEY ARE RANDY DAVIS, 51, BEING HELD IN THE LOCAL JAIL AND KAYBEE BULLOCK, AGE 28, A PASSENGER IN THE CAR WHO IS NOW FREE ON HER OWN RECOGNIZANCE.

A MAQUOKETA WOMAN, ELEANOR BUSCH, AGE 84, DIED IN A CAR ACCIDENT AT 5:20 SATURDAY AFTERNOON WEST OF TOWN ON HIGHWAY 64, AT 5:20 P.M. SATURDAY.
IT WAS A TWO VEHICLE ACCIDENT. THE OTHER DRIVER, JAGDEEP KAUR, AGE 31, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS NOT INJURED. ELEANOR WAS A MAQUOKETA SCHOOLS TEACHER FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND IS SURVIVED BY A SON, RUSSELL BUSCH OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK AND SEVERAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETS TONIGHT.

FORMER COUNTY SUPERVISOR AND GRAYHOUND RACEDOGS OWNER, JASON HAYNES OF RURAL LAMOTTE. BOTH ARE WORKING HARD CAMPAIGNING. BOTH HAVE LOTS OF YARD SIGNS OUT AND BOTH, ESPECIALY HAYNES, ARE ADVERTISING ON KMAQ.
REPUBLICANS WILL VOTE FOR 1 OF 3 CANDIDATES: LYMAN BAILEY OF BELLEVUE, MANAGER OF THE MILL VALLEY SENIOR CARE CENTER...GORDON REED, RURAL BELLEVUE FARMER AND PAUL CARSTENSEN, RURAL PRESTON CATTLEMAN. CARSTENSEN IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE WITH SPOTS ON KMAQ AND ALL 5 CANDIDATES ARE ADVERTISING IN MAQUOKETA PAPER.
