HIGH OF 37 TODAY WITH SOME SUNSHINE.

THE MAQUOKETA BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM WON THEIR 3RD GAME IN A ROW LAST NIGHT, AT HOME, BEATING
WESTERN DUBUQUE, 66 TO 54.

AND THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS AT EPWORTH ALSO BEAT WESTERN DUBUQUE, 44 TO 40.

THE WRESTLERS HOST DEWITT TOMORROW NIGHT.
DR. PAUL KOOB WILL BROADCAST THE VARSITY MATCHES ON KMAQ-FM.

TWO FAMILES LOST ALL OF THEIR PERSONAL BELONGINGS IN A FIRE 15 MILES NORTHWEST OF MAQUOKETA LAST NIGHT JUST AFTER 9. THE OLDER, RANCH STYLE HOME IS OWNED BY RANDELL SCHOENHEER. OCCUPANTS OF THE HOME WERE PAUL AND KAREN RALSTON AND THEIR DAUGHTER COLETTE KLEIN AND HER 3 CHILDREN. THE FIRE WAS VISABLE IN THE BASEMENT WHEN FIREMEN ARRIVED. A WOOD BURNING STOVE IN THE BASEMENT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FIRE. FAMILY MEMBERS CREDIT DEVIN KLEIN, AGE 8, ONE OF COLLETTE'S CHILDREN, FOR GETTING EVERYONE OUT SAFELY. MOST OF THE FAMILY MEMBERS, INCLUDING GRANDFATHER PAUL RALSTON, WERE SLEEPING AT THE TIME THE FIRE BROKE OUT.
DEVIN SMELLED AND SAW SMOKE AND WENT TO WAKE UP HIS GRANDFATHER. ALL THEN LEFT THE BURNING HOME. RALSTON'S WIFE, KAREN, WAS WORKING AND NOT AT HOME. THE HOME SUSTAINED A GREAT DEAL OF SMOKE AND HEAT DAMAGE AND THE ESTIMATED COST OF DAMAGE, ABOUT $50,000.

THE JACKSON COUNTY COMPENSATION BOARD MEETS TONIGHT.....THE BOARD THAT SUGGESTS SALARY INCREASES TO THE SUPERVISORS FOR COUNTY ELECTED OFFICIALS.

A WELL KNOWN, FORMER MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCILMAN, IS PLANNING TO ANNOUNCE IN EARLY
FEBRUARY THAT HE WILL RUN FOR JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISOR. SORRY, CAN'T GIVE NAME YET.

ABOUT 60 PEOPLE, MOSTLY FROM MAQUOKETA AND MOSTLY MEMBERS OF SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH ARE ON A WEEK-PLUS CRUISE THIS WEEK.
I BELEIVE IT IS ALSO A FUND-RAISER FOR THE CHURCH.

ME......NEVER BEEN ON A CRUISE. I HEAR THEY ARE FUN, AND THAT ONE ENJOYS LOTS OF FOOD.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF...AND CHECK BACK TOMORROW.
