THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH YOUTH ARE TAKING A MISSION TRIP TO OHIO THIS SUMMER, TO WORK IN A DESOLATE AREA. IN DECEMBER,
THEY STARTED A "FLUSHING" FUND DRIVE TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE TRIP.
THEY HAVE 3 TOILETS CIRCULATING IN MAQUOKETA, SHOWING UP ON
FRONT SIDEWALKS OR LAWNS. KMAQ STARTED IT OFF WITH TWO
IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING. OURS MOVED ON TO "SMILES ON MAIN" AND
"OSTERHAUS PHARMACY". IT COSTS $20 TO FLUSH THEM AWAY, $20 TO
SEND THEM TO SOMEONE AND $20 TO HAVE INSURANCE SHOULD YOU
WANT TO INSURE THEY WILL NOT RE-APPEAR ON YOUR LAWN.
YESTERDAY, ONE ARRIVED AT THE HOME OF DONALD ROLING. HIS COUSIN
IN COLORADO (A REGULAR READER OF MY DAILY REPORT) PAID $20 TO
HAVE ONE PUT AT DONALD'S HOUSE. AND SO DONALD PAID $20 TO
FLUSH IT AWAY AND $20 TO BUY THE INSURANCE. THE RESULT, ANOTHER $60 FOR FOR THE MISSION TRIP FUND....AND ALL THANKS TO THIS DAILY REPORT WHICH IS READ ALL THE WAY WEST TO COLORADO.
I TALKED TO LISA BARNES YESTERDAY (IT WAS HER IDEA FOR THE PROJECT)
AND SHE SAID THE PROMOTION HAS BEEN FUN, A LOT OF WORK
DELIVERING THE TOILETS TO NEW LOCATIONS, HAS RAISED OVER A
THOUSAND DOLLARS SO FAR, AND WILL END SOON.
THE METHODIST YOUTH HAVE ANOTHER FUND DRIVE SPAGHETTI DINNER THIS IS FRIDAY NIGHT AND EVERYONE IS INVITED.
FOR MANY YEARS, THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH (UP ON THE HILL ON WESLEY DRIVE) HAS BROADCAST THEIR SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE,
"LIVE AND DIRECT" FROM THE CHURCH. IT STARTS AT 10:30 A.M.
EVERY SUNDAY ON KMAQ-FM AND EACH WEEK IS SPONSORED BY
A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH, AT A NOMINAL COST OF $29.
ALSO...THE FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA FOR MANY YEARS HAS BROADCAST THEIR MORNING SERVICE. IT STARTS AT 9:00 A.M. EVERY
SUNDAY ON KMAQ-AM, AT SAME COST TO A CHURCH MEMBER.
AND THE SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ANDREW RECORDS THEIR SUNDAY
MORNING SERVICE EACH SUNDAY AND THE RE-BROADCAST IS AT 5:00 P.M.
EVERY SUNDAY AFTERNOON ON KMAQ-FM.
A CHURCH IS LIKE A BUSINESS IN A WAY....IT NEEDS NEW PEOPLE TO COME
THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR EVERY WEEK. MANY, MANY CONGREGATIONS
ARE DOWN IN ATTENDANCE AND SHOULD THINK OF WAYS TO BUILD MEMBERSHIP. AND KMAQ IS A GOOD PLACE TO START. WE GIVE
SPECIAL LOWER RATES TO A CHURCH FOR SPOT ANNOUNCEMENTS AND
OF COURSE, THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS ON OUR
COMMUNITY EVENTS CALENDAR. THE EVENTS CALENDAR ANNOUNCEMENT
IS AIRED TWO OR THREE TIMES A DAY FOR 3 DAYS. MANY TIMES PEOPLE
WILL BUY EXTRA SPOTS TO ADVERTISE THE EVENT LONGER AND MORE OFTEN. IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO START A WEEK OR MORE IN ADVANCE.
TODAY, THERE ARE A LOT OF PROBLEMS IN AMERICA AND LARGER AND STRONGER CHURCHES CAN HELP EASE THE PROBLEMS. PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS, IT ALL STARTS WITH SUNDAY SCHOOL, OR A FRIENDLY INVITATION CALL TO A NEIGHBOR, FRIEND OR RELATIVE TO VISIT YOUR
CHURCH.
OK.....ENOUGH OF MY "PREACHING"....THIS....MY ONE AND ONLY SERMON FOR
2016. AMEN
DENNIS VOY
