HOSPICE OF JACKSON COUNTY HAS OFFERED $35,000 FOR THE BICENTENNIAL PARK JUST NORTH OF THE HOSPITAL.
THE PROPERTY HAS BEEN APPRAISED OVER TWICE THAT AMOUNT AND TODAY THE SUPERVISORS AT A WORK SESSION INDICATED THEY STILL WANT THE APPRAISED AMOUNT. HOSPICE WOULD BUILD A NEW BUILDING ON IT.

THE MAQUOKETA CARDINAL WRESTLERS LOST HERE LAST NIGHT TO DAVENPORT WEST, BUT IT WAS A GOOD DUAL MEET AND THE YOUNG MAQUOKETA SQUAD DID WELL.

BRENT AND SHEILA NUGENT HAVE OFFERED THE CITY $10,000
FOR THE FORMER CLINTON ENGINES QUONSET HUT. IT WAS THE COMPANY CAFFETERIA IN THE BOOMING DAYS OF THE PLANT. IT IS IN BAD SHAPE NOW. NUGENTS WOULD EXPAND THEIR ADJACENT BUSINESS ON TO THE PROPERTY. THE COUNCIL LAST NIGHT VOTED IN FAVOR OF SELLING TO THE NUGENTS, AND A PUBLIC HEARING WILL NOW BE NECESSARY, AND WILL BE HELD ON JANUARY 7TH.

JERRY GRAVES, AGE 45, OF MAQUOKETA, DIED SATURDAY FROM INJURIES RECEIVED IN A FREAK LOGGING ACCIDENT NOVEMBER 28TH. HE HAS LIVED IN MAQUOKETA FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS AND HAS BEEN THE OWNER OF EASTERN IOWA FORESTRY. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE AND 7 CHILDREN, INCLUDING 4 AT HOME. THE FUNERAL IS TOMORROW NIGHT IN DUBUQUE AND BURIAL WILL BE AT MOUNT HOPE CEMETERY IN MAQUOKETA. MRS. GRAVES AND FAMILY INVITES CUSTOMERS AND FRIENDS TO STOP IN AT OBIE'S IN MAQUOKETA THURSDAY BETWEEN 3 AND 7 P.M. HIS WIFE
ALSO TOLD KMAQ NEWS THE BUSINESS WILL CONTINUE IN OPERATION AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. VERY SAD SITUATION. HE WAS IN A BUCKET WHEN A TREE LIMB FELL TO GROUND AND BOUNCED BACK UP ABOUT 20 FEET AND STRUCK HIM IN THE HEAD.
