THURSDAY DAILY REPORT

TODAY STARTED OUT CLOUDY AND WAS THAT WAY UNTIL THIS AFTERNOON AND THEN, THOUGH NOT IN FORECAST FOR TODAY, THE SUN CAME OUT FOR
THE REST OF THE AFTERNOON.   HI TODAY, 34.  TOMORROW WE ARE GOING
TO HIT 40.

THE  CITY OF MAQUOKETA PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE IS RECOMMENDING THAT LOCAL POLICE OFFICERS BE ALLOWED TO BUY RIFLES.     THE COST
OF EACH IS EXPECTED TO BE $1,300.   THE CITY WOULD PAY FOR THE COST WITH THE OFFICERS PAYING THE CITY BACK OVER 36 PAY PERIODS.
THE RECOMMENDATION GOES TO THE CITY COUNCIL ON MONDAY NIGHT.

THE JACKSON COUNTY CONFERENCE BOARD WILL MEET AGAIN MONDAY IN AN ATTEMPT TO  HIRE A NEW COUNTY ASSESSOR.   THE MEETING WILL BE
AT 5:30 p.m. IN THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE COMMUNITY ROOM.

RAYMOND KUHL, AGE 97, DIED YESTERDAY AT HIS HOME.    THE FUNERAL WILL BE NEXT TUESDAY WITH MILITARY RITES, AT THE LAW JONES FUNERAL HOME IN PRESTON.   SURVIVORS INCLUDE 7 CHILDREN, INCLUDING
JULIE STREETS OF MAQUOKETA.

ROSS RIVER STOPPED INTO MY OFFICE FOR A FEW MINUTES THIS MORNING.
HE'S 86, AND MAQUOKETA'S OLDEST FULLTIME ACTIVE BUSINESSMAN.
HE STARTED IN THE FARM FEED AND EQUIPMENT BUSINESS (NOW SELLING WICK BUILDINGS) IN THE EARLY 50'S....SPENT SEVERAL YEARS IN THE U.S.
MILITARY, AND HAS BEEN A CONTINUOUS ADVERTISER ON KMAQ SINCE
WE WENT ON THE AIR IN 1958.    NOTE...HIS SHIRT POCKETS.   I HAVE KNOWN ROSS SINCE THE FALL OF 1958 AND HE ALWAYS HAS FILLED-POCKETS, WITH
PAPERS, PENS, PROPOSALS, ETC.    
OH...I BELIEVE I AM THE 2ND OLDEST MAQUOKETA FULLTIME BUSINESSMAN....BUT A FEW LESS YEARS THAN ROSS.

IN BUSINESS NEWS, JEREMY HAS JOINED CLYDE HARPER AT THE LOCAL
EDWARD JONES OFFICE.    HE HAS BEEN WITH THE COMPANY SINCE 2012 AND COMES HERE FROM ANAMOSA.   THAT'S WHERE HE, HIS WIFE AND
4 KIDS LIVE AND HE WILL COMMUTE FOR THE TIME BEING.    HIS YOUNGEST IS STILL NOT IN SCHOOL.     WELCOME TO THE MAQUOKETA BUSINESS COMMUNITY JEREMY.
