THE EMILINE SCHOOL (OPENED IN 1848 - CLOSED IN 1966)...ONE OF THE OLDEST IN JACKSON COUNTY, HAS BEEN GOING THROUGH A RESTORATION AND SUNDAY, AN OPEN HOUSE TO SHOW OFF THE EXTENSIVE WORK COMPLETED. SEVERAL WHO ATTENDED WENT TO SCHOOL THERE.
THEY HAVE DONE A NICE JOB OF RESTORATION. EVEN THE OUTHOUSES.
SHERI WROTE A BOOK ABOUT THE SCHOOL WITH MANY STUDENT PICTURES
AND TALKED TO THE VISITORS YESTERDAY, WHILE THEY ENJOYED COFFEE, LEMONADE AND COOKIES. EMILINE ALSO HAD A CHURCH AND FAMOUS GENERAL STORE AND BOTH ARE GONE. EMILINE IS NORTHWEST OF MAQUOKETA OFF THE CAVES ROAD, ABOUT 3 MILES FARTHER THAN THE CAVES PARK. ANYONE WANTING TO BUY THE BOOK OR HAVING QUESTIONS IS INVITED TO VISIT SHERI AT HER TAX AND ACCOUNTING OFFICE ON EAST PLATT STREET. BY THE WAY, THIS IS THE 2ND OLD COUNTRY SCHOOL
TO BE RESTORED. THE OTHER IS JUST SOUTH OF BALDWIN.

THE FIRST BUSINESS PERSONS I MET AS SHE WAS PRINTING A DAILY
NEWSLETTER THAT WAS TAKEN TO ALL THE RESTAURANTS IN TOWN,
GIVING NEWS, WEATHER AND SPORTS AND AN UPDATE ON THE PROGRESS
OF THE BUILDING OF KMAQ. WHEN THE STATION WENT ON-THE-AIR,
THE PUBLICATION ENDED BUT SHE CONTINUED TO DO OTHER PRINTING
