NORTHEAST (GOOSE LAKE) BOYS WON LAST NIGHT AND ARE JUST ONE GAME AWAY FROM GOING TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT. BELLEVUE MARQUETTE PLAYS TOMORROW NIGHT AND THEY, UNDEFEATED WITH THIR 7-FOOT PLAYER, COULD ALSO GO TO STATE. DEWITT CENTRAL IS STILL IN, AND PLAYS DUBUQUE WAHLERT TOMORROW NIGHT.
THERE WILL BE NO AREA GIRL'S TEAMS IN NEXT WEEK'S STATE TOURNAMENT.

DANIEL RATCLIFF WILL BE THE NEW PRINCIPAL AT CARDINAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THIS SUMMER. HE WAS HIRED LAST NIGHT
FROM A FIELD OF 41 AND WILL RECEIVE $60,000. HE WILL REPLACE RETIRING LONGTIME PRINCIPAL SUSANNE BATEY. HE HAS BEEN AN ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL AT TWO SCHOOLS IN THE WAPSI VALLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT THE LAST 16 YEARS. HE STARTED HIS CAREER IN 1977 AS AN INTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER.

JOEL HAGEN IS THE NEW MUSIC TEACHER, THE FIRST MALE TO HAVE THE JOB. HE REPLACES PAM CRAWFORD WHO IS RETIRING. HAGEN HAS BEEN A TEACHER FOR 4 YEARS, MOST RECENTLY AT PRAIRIE VALLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS IN GOWRIE. THERE WERE 8 APPLICANTS.

CHRISTINE LIRA IS THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL SPANISH TEACHER. SHE IS FROM WISCONSIN. SHE HAS BEEN A SPANISH TEACHER IN SLINGER, WISCONSIN AND ENGLISH TEACHER IN MEXICO. THERE WERE TWO APPLICANTS FOR THE JOB.

NO NEW VARSITY FOOTBALL COACH WAS HIRED. THAT WILL BE DONE AT NEXT MEETING.

LAST NIGHT, FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO THE TOM SCHUELLER HOME ON WEST PLATT TO EXTINGUISH A FENCE.

MAQUOKETA HIGH GRADUATE FRED HAHN IS IN MAQUOKETA. HE'S A RETIRED DOCTOR FROM KANSAS CITY AND HAS WRITTEN A BOOK.
WAS ON KMAQ'S JUST TALK TODAY, SPOKE AT ROTARY AT NOON AND WILL AUTOGRAPH HIS BOOK TOMORROW AT THE LIBRARY. HE HAS A BROTHER, NEAL IN MAQUOKETA AND HIS MOTHER LIVES AT THE MAQUOKETA CARE CENTER.
