A MAQUOKETA MAN REPORTED TUESDAY AFTERNOON THAT SOMEONE
TOOK PACKAGES FROM THE FRONT OF HIS HOME. MICHAEL MAURO
SAID SOMEONE TOOK THEM OFF HIS PORCH. POLICE SAY THERE HAVE
BEEN SEVERALL COMPLAINTS OF PACKAGES MISSING AND POLICE RECOMMEND RESIDENTS HAVE PACKAGES SENT TO THEIR OFFICE OR TO A NEIGHBOR WHO IS HOME ALL THE TIME AND CAN PUT THE PACKAGES
INSIDE SOON AFTER THEY ARRIVE.
THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL SAID THIS WEEK THEY WANT TO KEEP THE FORMER FIRE SITE ON MAIN STREET AS A FUTURE RETAIL SITE AND NOT
USE IT FOR A PARK AS HAS BEEN SUGGESTED. BUT THE COUNCIL ALSO
AGREED TO ALLOW IT TO BE USED, AS IN THE PAST, FOR SPECIAL DOWNTOWN EVENTS.
THIS IS THE HOME ON WEST GROVE STREET WHERE THE RESCUE OF
WHEELCHAIR BOUND RESIDENT WAS SAVED BY A FIREMAN AND CITY COUNCILMAN WHO BOTH CRAWLED ON THE FLOOR TO GET TO THE MAN AND PULL HIM OUT OF THE BURNING HOME.

HAD A LONG CAREER IN THE PRINTING INDUSTRY. SURVIVORS INCLUDE A SISTER BARBARA MAYBERRY OF MAQUOKETA.
IN BASKETBALL TUESDAY NIGHT IN MAQUOKETA, THE MAQUOKETA BOYS LOST TO MT. VERNON 44 TO 35 AND CARDINAL GIRLS DEFEATED MT. VERNON 44 TO 42 IN OVERTIME. BOTH GAMES AT THE MCHS GYM.
BONNIE MITCHELL, CURATOR OF THE TWO MUSEUMS IN MAQUOKETA
SAID THAT THE HOLIDAY BASKET AUCTION AND SOUP SUPPER WAS A
GOOD SUCCESS LAST WEEK. THE SUPPER RAISED OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS WITH 155 SERVED IN THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM COMMUNITY ROOM. THE BASKET AUCTION TOTAL WAS $2,167. AND THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY RECEIVED $110 FROM DONATIONS.
