MOSTLY CLOUDY TODAY.....IN MID 20'S.
THURSDAY NIGHT, DOWN TO 12 BELOW.
MAQUOKETA BOYS PLAY AT MT. VERNON TONIGHT.
THE GIRLS HOST MT. VERNON. THEY ARE RANKED 2ND AND HAVE LOST
JUST ONE GAME.
THE MAN WHO WAS INJURED IN A FIGHT LAST WEEK IS NOW RECUPERATING
AT HOME. POLICE CHIEF BRAD KORANDA SAID RICHARD ALLEN WAS RELEASED
YESTERDAY FROM THE IOWA CITY UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL. KORANDA SAID
IT IS STILL UNCLEAR WHAT HAPPENED TO RESULT IN THE INJURIES.
THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE
DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION.
AT LAST NIGHT'S CITY COUNCIL MEETING, CITY MANAGER WAGNER SAID THE MAQUOKETA PUBLIC WORKS STAFF HAS SUGGESTED THE OLD OUTDOOR POOL
SITE BE RENOVATED INTO A PARK WITH THE POOL BEING ALTERED TO
MAKE IT INTO A SKATING RINK. THE COUNCIL DECIDED IT SHOULD BE
CONSIDERED.
THERE WILL BE STILL ANOTHER JUDGE POSITION OPEN IN THE SEVENTH
JUDICIAL DISTRICT. JUDGE JAMES KELLY HAS ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT.
JUST LAST WEEK, GOV. CHET CULVER APPOINTED A MUSCATINE MAN TO
FILL A TERM. MAQUOKETA ATTORNEY MARK LAWSON WAS ONE OF TWO
FINALISTS FOR THAT POSITION. I ASSUME LAWSON WILL NOW APPLY FOR
THIS POSITION TOO.
AT LAST NIGHT'S MEETING OF THE COUNCIL, THERE WAS DISCUSSION ON WHAT
TO DO WITH THE EMPTY LAND WHERE THE BURNED DOWN BUILDINGS STOOD
3 YEARS AGO. THE LAND IS OWNED BY THE CITY AND MIDAS, THE CITY'S
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE. ANY IDEAS?
THE LITTLE CHRISTMAS TREE THAT WAS ON THE SITE IS STILL STANDING
AND THE LIGHTS ARE STILL BURNING. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN DOWN
WEEKS AGO.
THANKS FOR CHECKING IN AGAIN.
