RAIN THIS MORNING...ABOUT 15/100 OF AN INCH..THEN PARTY SUNNY AND TEMPERATURES IN THE 40'S.

AT THE STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT, THE BELLEVUE MARQUETTE BOYS LOST THIS AFTERNOON TO MANNING AND NOW PLAY FOR 3RD PLACE TOMORROW MORNING. MANNING WAS UNDEFEATED AND THEIR BIG CENTER WAS THE LEADING SCORER THIS YEAR IN IOWA, AVERAGING 28 POINTS A GAME.

THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA HAS RECEIVED A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FOR $600,000 TO HELP PAY FOR A PROJECT TO GET RID OF RADIUM IN THE CITY WATER. THE CITY WILL BE SEEKING A REVOLVING LOAN FROM THE DNR TO PAY FOR THE REST OF THE $2.9 MILLION DOLLAR COST.

THERE WILL BE A MISS MAQUOKETA RIVER CONTEST THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. CONTESTANTS INCLUDE TWO GIRLS FROM MAQUOKETA....SAMI MOORE, DAUGHTER OF KEN AND LINDA MOORE AND MEGAN NIMS, DAUGHTER OF VERNON AND ROBIN NIMS. THERE WILL BE 5 OTHER CONTESTANTS AND THE WINNER WILL ADVANCE TO THE MISS IOWA PAGEANT IN JUNE. THERE WILL BE FIVE JUDGES, INCLUDING GARY DREW OF MAQUOKETA AND LENKE (MRS. DON) CARSON OF MAQUOKETA. MAYOR TOM MESSERLIE WILL BE THE MASTER OF CEREMONIES.

TWO THEFTS IN MAQUOKETA. SOMEONE BROKE INTO A VEHICLE AT THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL YESTERDAY, BELONGING TO BRANDY DRISCOLL AND YOLANDA GAVEN REPORTED HER HOME ON PERSHING ROAD WAS BROKEN INTO YESTERDAY.

A MINOR ACCIDENT IN MAQUOKETA YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. DRIVERS WERE ANGELICA WALSH, 15, OF MAQUOKETA. SHE WAS CHARGED. AND ERIC LEON, AGE 20, OF MAQUOKETA. DAMAGES,$3,000 TO EACH VEHICLE.
APPARENTLY NO ONE WAS INJURED.

ANOTHER SIGN OF SPRING. THE FIRST BARGES WENT THROUGH THE BELLEVUE LOCK AND DAM MONDAY AFTERNOON, NORTHBOUND TO ST. PAUL WITH 12 BARGES TOTAL.

NO BIRTHS OR DEATHS.

DOTTIE BAYLES OF KMAQ, AND JACK JONES OF THE VOY THEATRE, JUST RETURNED SUNDAY (PART OF AN EASTERN IOWA GROUP TOUR) FROM A VISIT TO LONDON. THEY ALL HAD A GOOD TIME. WOULD SURE BE NICE IF THEIR BOSS COULD AFFORD TO GO. OH YES, JUDY BOWLING ALSO WENT AND IS ENJOYING LIFE AFTER ...."THE LOFT".... WHICH SHE HAS SOLD.
