THE 4TH ANNUAL "MEN WHO COOK" DINNER WAS HELD YESTERDAY FROM 5 UNTIL 7 P.M. AT THE PEARSON MEMORIAL CENTER ON THE FAIRGROUNDS IN MAQUOKETA.
IT AGAIN WAS SPONSORED BY THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB, MAQUOKETA KIWANIS CLUB, MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST CLUB AND THE DELMAR LIONS CLUB.
CHAIRPERSON, ROTARIAN NANCY MOORE (WITH LOTS OF HELP FROM OPTIMIST LOIS FISCHER), WAS HAPPY WITH THE EVENT AND SAID 700-800 ATTENDED. WHO
WERE THE BEST COOKS? LEFT TO RIGHT: FIRST PLACE TO MIKE FRANZEN....
SECOND PLACE TO JACK WILLEY, AND A TIE FOR THIRD PLACE BETWEEN
JERRY FARRELL AND FAR RIGHT, MARTI BALLIU. I'M HAPPY TO MENTION ALSO
THAT ROTARIAN JOHN GILROY DID HIS USUAL EXCELLENT JOB AS EMCEE OF THE AFTERNOON.

SPECIAL GUEST OF THE "MEN WHO COOK" EVENT THIS YEAR WAS BILL WUNDRAM, WHO WRITES A VERY POPULAR COLUMN FOR THE QUAD CITY TIMES. HE'S 85 AND IN HIS 65TH YEAR WITH THE PAPER. YESTERDAY'S EVENT WILL BE WRITTEN-UP BY BILL THIS WEEK. HE ATE AND ATE AND ATE! BUT THEN, SO DID I! HE WAS
REALLY IMPRESSED BY THE WHOLE AFFAIR. LIKED THE MUSIC TOO. HIS WIFE
HELEN IS DOWN IN THEIR FLORIDA APARTMENT. HE DROVE HER DOWN, BUT COULDN'T STAY VERY LONG BECAUSE HE'S STILL A BUSY MAN BACK UP HERE.
HE FLEW BACK. THANKS BILL FOR ATTENDING "MEN WHO COOK".

THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB, ONE OF FOUR "MEN WHO COOK" SPONSORS, WAS HAPPY TO HAVE MIKE FRANZEN AS THEIR CELEBRITY GUEST COOK, SHOWN HERE IN THE MIDDLE. ON THE LEFT CHIEF PORK COOK STEVE FLYNN AND ON THE FAR RIGHT, ERIC ELKIN, ROTARY CLUB PRESIDENT.
THAT PORK, AGAIN COOKED BY THE LADIES AT THE EAGLES CLUB, WAS AGAIN
VERY POPULAR AND VERY TASTY.
