HOT AND HUMID TODAY....HIGH 90.
WE GOT OVER AN INCH OF RAIN EARLY THIS MORNING.

MAQUOKETA FIREMEN WERE CALLED INTO ACTION AT 4:50 THIS MORNING TO THE MARK NIENKIRK RESIDENCE BETWEEN IRON HILL AND EMILINE.
THE FIRE WAS IN A SHEET METAL POLE BUILDING, ABOUT 30 BY 60 FEET. IT WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING AND ALL ITS CONTENTS WERE DESTROYED, INCLUDING AN A.T.V., SOME LAWN MOWERS, SHOP TOOLS AND A CHEVY S-10 PARKED OUTSIDE THE BUILDING. TOTAL LOSS ESTIMATED AT
$20,000.

A MAQUOKETA MAN, TERRY BRONSON, IS THE LUCKY WINNER OF A NEW 2006 PONTIAC 2-DOOR SPORTS CAR, GIVEN AWAY LAST NIGHT IN BELLEVUE, IN A RAFFLE CONNECTED WITH THE CITY'S ANNUAL HERITAGE DAYS CELEBRATION.

THE MAQUOKETA FIREWORKS SATURDAY NIGHT, BECAUSE OF A POWER FAILURE DURING THE STOCK CAR RACES, DID NOT START UNTIL AROUND 11 O'CLOCK. THE RACES WERE FINISHED FIRST, AND THEN THE 20-MINUTE FIREWORKS CAME NEXT, SPONSORED BY FIREWORKS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MAQUOKETA AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. BELLEVUE'S 45-MINUTE FIREWORKS SHOW STARTED AT 10:15 LAST NIGHT AND CLINTON COUNTY'S $22,000 DISPLAY WILL BE PUT ON TOMORROW NIGHT AT GRAND MOUND. THERE WILL BE NO 4TH OF JULY EVENTS IN MAQUOKETA
TOMORROW.
