4/10 OF AN INCH OF RAIN YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. A DOWNPOUR STARTED JUST AFTER 2 P.M. AS THE GRADUATION CEREMONY WAS GETTING STARTED AT THE OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER AIR-CONDITIONER AUDITORIUM.
GOVERNOR CHET CULVER HAS DECLARED PARTS OF JACKSON COUNTY A DISASTER AREA AFTER THE TORNADO WENT THROUGH SOUTH OF BELLEVUE FRIDAY AFTERNOON. LYN MIDINGER, EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR FOR THE COUNTY, SAID THE TORNADO WAS LISTED AS AN F2, WHICH IS A 120 MPH STORM. IT WAS ONE-HALF MILE WIDE AND 3 1/2 MILES LONG. MEDINGER SAID THEY ARE SEEKING A FEDERAL DESIGNATION SO FUNDING CAN COME INTO THE COUNTY.
THERE WERE NO INJURIES FROM THE STORE.

AT GRADUATION CEREMONIES YESTERDAY, THERE WERE 148 GRADUATES AND 143 WALKED ACROSS THE STAGE TO REC EIVE THEIR DIPLOMA. FOR THE 129TH COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM, SENIOR SPEECHES WERE DELIVERED BY REBECCA WILLIAMS AND MITCH MCDERMOTT. THE CLASS SALUTATORIN IS KELLEY SHUSTER, WITH A GPA OF 3.967.
THERE WERE TWO CO-VALDECTORIANS, EACH WITH A GPA OF 3.984. THEY
ARE: MATT LOPEZ, SON OF HECTOR AND JULIE ....AND ALESHA NICKESON,
DAUGHTER OF MIKE AND THERESA. A FULL HOUSE, AROUND 900 PEOPLE, WATCHED THE EVENT.

THE JACKSON COUNTY ZONING BOARD WILL HOST A PUBLIC HEARING TONIGHT TO TALK ABOUT A PROPOSED RACE CAR TESTING TRACK AT OTTER CREEK. THERE IS OPPOSITION.
