NO RAIN LAST NIGHT. MOSTLY CLOUDY, VERY LIGHT RAIN AND COOL TODAY.

THE MAQUOKETA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION HELD THEIR "END OF THE YEAR"
BANQUET LAST NIGHT AT THE BLUFF LAKE CATFISH FARM, WITH ABOUT 60 IN ATTENDANCE FOR THE LOCAL TEACHERS GROUP FUNCTION. LONGTIME
BAND INSTRUCTOR KENT CRAWFORD WAS HONORED AS TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
THE JACKSON COUNTY REGIONAL HEALTH CENTER (THE HOSPITAL) RECEIVED THE FRIEND OF EDUCATION AWARD. CURT AND LAURA COLEMAN AND CHERRYL AND HERB KIRL WERE ON HAND TO REPRESENT THE CENTER. IT WAS ANNOUNCED AT THE MEETING THAT HIGH SCHOOL INSTRUCTORS KATHY QUINLAN AND TODD BOWMAN WILL SERVE AS CO-PRESIDENTS BEGINING WITH THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR. THEY WILL REPLACE KATHY MCCAULLEY AND BOB ROE WHO HAVE SERVED AS CO-PRESIDENTS OF THE M.E.A. FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS.

ON THE POLICE BLOTTER: RUSS HOUSTON OF 304 N. 5TH STREET IN MAQUOKETA REPORTED THAT SOMEONE SCRATCHED HIS CAR WITH A SHARP OBJECT.
ALSO....THE HOME AT 509 S. VERMONT , OWNED BY JEANNETTE GANED, RECEIVED DAMAGE TO THE SIDE OF THE GARAGE WITH SEVERAL HOLES DISCOVERED IN THE SIDING.
AND VIVIAN MILLER ON COLGAGE AVENUE REPORTED HER CAR AND SIDING ON HER MOBILE HOME HAD BEEN EGGED.

THE ANDREW SCHOOL WILL HONOR JOHN BURROW OF MAQUOKETA AT A RECEPTION THURSDAY NIGHT, JUNE 4TH AT THE SCHOOL CAFETERIA IN
ANDREW. HE JUST RETIRED. HE STARTED "ANDREW COMMENT" ON KMAQ
BACK IN THE MID 80'S. THE SHOW EACH SATURDAY DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR WAS DONE BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, DIRECTED BY JOHN, AND FEATURED NEWS AND INTERVIEWS REGARDING THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. HE ALSO DIRECTED THE FALL
PLAY AT ANDREW. MANY OF THE PLAYS WERE ALSO WRITTEN BY HIM. HE STARTED WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE 70'S. OVER THE YEARS, HE ALSO DIRECTED QUITE A FEW PRODUCTIONS OF THE PEACE PIPE PLAYERS LITTLE THEATRE GROUP IN MAQUOKETA.
BEST WISHES JOHN FOR A LONG AND HAPPY RETIREMENT.
THIS TALENTED MAN WILL BE MISSED IN ANDREW AND HERE ON KMAQ.
