TUESDAY DAILY REPORT

BEAUTIFUL DAY....76 THE HIGH.
TOMORROW, MOSTLY SUNNY AND HIGH OF 72.
THURSDAY, SUNNY AND HIGH OF 75.
FRIDAY, MAY BE THE WARMEST DAY THIS WEEK, AT 77.

SHOULD BE A NICE WEEKEND FOR THE CLASS OF 1954 WHEN THEY
CELEBRATE THEIR 60TH CLASS REUNION.   IT STARTS FRIDAY NIGHT
AT THE DECKER HOTEL LOBBY WITH A LIGHT BUFFET IN THE LOBBY.
THE 53 AND 55 CLASS MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO THE CASUAL GET-
TOGETHER.   THE BANQUET IS SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE DECKER
AND A FAREWELL BRUNCH WILL BE HELD AT 9:30 SUNDAY MORNING AT
THE HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER.      ANN WILCOX EDELEMAN
AND HER COMMITEE HAS MET MONTHLY FOR A YEAR, MAKING PLANS.
CLASS MEMBER WAYNE WELLS IS COMING  UP FROM FLORIDA TO BE
THE EMCEE.    WHERE WERE YOU IN '54?
ABOUT 1954:    DWIGHT EISENHOWER WAS PRESIDENT.   THE AVERAGE HOME COST $10,250.   GAS WAS 22 CENTS A GALLON.   A NEW CAR COST $1,700.
A MOVIE TICKET WAS 70 CENTS.    BIG MOVIES THAT  YEAR WERE
ON THE WATER FRONT, WHITE CHRISTMAS AND THE GLEN MILLER STORY.
THE BIG SONG WAS ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK WITH BILL HALEY.
MARILYN MONROE MARRIED JOE DeMAGGIO.     THE WORDS "UNDER GOD" WERE ADDED TO THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.     MEN'S SUITS WERE
$29.95.    AND I WAS A FRESHMAN AT HORICON (WISCONSIN) HIGH SCHOOL.

HERE'S TODAY'S BIG COURTHOUSE STORY.     DEB LANE HAS RESIGNED AS JACKSON COUNTY ASSESSOR.     SHE GAVE HER WRITTEN RESIGNATIONTO SUPERVISOR CHAIRMAN JACK WILLEY FRIDAY NIGHT.   SHE ALSOSENT A LETTER TO THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNTY CONFERENCE BOARD THAT HIRES THE ASSESSOR.   IT IS NOT AN ELECTED POSITION.   TWOWEEKS AGO TODAY SHE WAS IN THE SUPERVISORS OFFICE WHEN GUS GLASER SHOT AT HER, AND THEN SHOT HIMSELF.    LANE HAS
HELD THE ASSESSOR POSITON FOR OVER 7 YEARS AND HAS WORKED IN THE OFFICE OVER 20.    HER LETTER SAID SHE WAS RESIGNING
IMMEDIATELY, BUT THE ACTUAL DATE WILL BE JANUARY 2ND.   SHE WILL BE USING ACCUMULATED COMP TIME AND VACATION TIME BETWEEN NOW AND THEN.      LANE SAID IT HAS BEEN AN HONOR TO SERVE AS COUNTY ASSESSOR.   THE CONFERENCE BOARD WILL MEET AT 7 P.M. TUESDAY AT THE COMMUNITY ROOM AT THE COURTHOUSE AND THE MEETING WILL BE
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.     BETWEEN NOW AND THEN, SUPERVISORS WILL
CHECK WITH THE COUNTY'S PERSONNEL OFFICE ON THE ACTUAL NUMBER
OF DAYS LANE HAS ACCUMULATED.    LANE'S HUSBAND IS BOB,  AND HE FOR MANY YEARS HAS BEEN THE DISPATCHING SUPERVISOR FOR THE CITY-COUNTY AT THE LAW CENTER.     HE AND OTHERS IN THAT DEPARTMENT
WORK 24-7 AT THE TWO-WAY RADIO SYSTEM THERE, KEEPING IN TOUCH
WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT AND AMBULANCE PERSONNEL.

AS FOR THE BIG LOCAL SPORTS STORY....YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT A FEW MORE DAYS FOR IT.

AT MAQUOKETA'S FAMOUS  "LITTLE BEAR PARK"  NEW GRASS WAS MOWED FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST WEEK AND AS YOU CAN SEE, IT LOOKS PRETTY SHARP IN THAT AREA BETWEEN THE PARK, AND THE SHELTER.   NEW LOW RETAINING WALLS AND NEW SIDEWALKS MAKE IT EASY TO WALK IN AND
OUT OF THE PARK.   THE SAME FOR THE OTHER WEST ENTRY FROM BRIGG'S
SCHOOL.   AND I SEE A LOT OF ACTIVITY AT THE PARK!     PARENTS...GRAND PARENTS...TAKE THE KIDS THERE REGULARLY FOR AN HOUR OF FUN.

A LOT OF ITEMS HAVE BEEN DONATED FOR THE ABOVE AUCTION AND
ARE ON DISPLAY IN THE CORNER BUILDING JUST SOUTH OF TANDEM TIRE
WHERE KENNY HAS WORKED ALL HIS LIFE.

CHECK BACK TOMORROW AND DON'T FORGET THE CARDINALS-CUBS
GAME TONIGHT.
GO CARDINALS!
