PLAY AGAIN SATURDAY NIGHT.
THE BOYS PLAY THEIR FIRST TOURNAMENT GAME MONDAY NIGHT
AGAINST MARION.

THE DECKER HOTEL IS ADVERTISING FOR HELP, SO THEY MUST
BE PLANNING TO OPEN SOON.

WEDNESDAY DAILY

MAQUOKETA  GIRLS  HOST DEWITT TONIGHT FOR 7 PM TOURNAMENT GAME.   MATT CLARK WILL HAVE IT HERE AT 6:45.    THE TWO TEAMS HAVE PLAYED EACH OTHER TWICE THIS SEASON AND EACH WON
THEIR HOME GAME.


THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS BOWLING TEAM WON THE
DISTRICT TOURNAMENT YESTERDAY AT TIMBER LANES.   THE FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL  HISTORY FOR
THE GIRL'S BOWLING PROGRAM.    ALLISON FURNE
PLACED 1ST INDIVIDUALLY AND GOES ON TO 
STATE.   TEAMMATE ASHLEY WELLS FINISHED SECOND PLACE JUST 4 PINS BEHIND.
THE BOYS TEAM WAS SELECTED FOR AN "AT LARGE" POSITION.    DRAKE IVERSON TIED FOR 
5TH/6TH PLACE.     
SO THE CARDINALS ARE HEADED FOR THE STATE BOWLING TOURNAMENT NEXT MONDAY AT 10 A.M.
AT CADILLAC LANES IN WATERLOO.

                 THE 21ST ANNUAL 
       KMAQ FARM AND  HOME SHOW
YESTERDAY, WEDNESDAY, PORK  DAY,  CAME TO A CLOSE WITH MUSIC BY THE "BLACK VELVET BAND" OF MAQUOKETA.   LEFT TO RIGHT,  DAVID
MANNING, DALE KILBURG, CHUCK JORGENSEN,
DAN CARAWAY, AND CURT LICHTER.

 "FRANZEN FAMILY NEW AND USED TRACTORS" OF
MONMOUTH HAVE BEEN AN EXHIBITOR AT EVERY
SHOW.

THIS PHOTO TAKEN LAST NIGHT.   THANKS TO
THE FLU, SNOW, EXTREME COLD AND WEATHER
WATCHES, ATTENDANCE THIS YEAR WAS DOWN
BOTH DAYS, BUT STILL A GOOD TURNOUT.

 EVEN VISITORS FROM BETTENDORF.

OVER THE NOON HOUR TODAY, ON STAGE, THE
"FRIENDS OF AGRICULTURE" AWARDS WERE PRESENTED BY THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB
AND THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
AG COMMITTEE.    THE AGRI-BUSINESS AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO TREVIS AND NANCY MAYFIELD, OWNERS OF SYCAMORE MEDIA AND PUBLISHERS OF THE MAQUOKETA SENTINEL-PRESS, THE BELLEVUE HERALD-LEADER AND THE
DEWITT OBSERVER.   THEIR AWARD WAS PRESENTED BY SALLY DAVIES FROM THE ROTARY
CLUB. 

THE PUBLIC SERVICE PERSON AWARD WAS 
PRESENTED BY DEAN ENGEL FROM THE CHAMBER AG COMMITTEE TO AMBER MATTHEISEN FROM
THE IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION OFFICE IN JACKSON COUNTY.

THE  FARMER OF THE YEAR AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO THE APPLE FARM NEAR GREEN
ISLAND AND SABULA, ON HIGHWAY 52 WITH 600 APPLE TREES AND KNOWN AS "THE GRAVERT APPLE ORCHARD".    THE AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO OWNERS DIANE GRAVERT AND HER DAUGHTER LAURA LARABEE.  

EACH AWARD WINNER RECEIVES A PLAQUE FROM
THE CHAMBER AND THE ROTARY.    

THE SHOW ENDED THIS AFTERNOON WITH MUSIC
BY THE FARM AND HOME SHOW TRIO, FROM
LEFT TO RIGHT, CARL O'MALLEY, SANDY MANUEL AND RANDY McCUTCHEON, ALL OF MAQUOKETA.

THE BIG THANK YOU TO THE EXHIBITORS, THE
VISITORS TO THE SHOW EACH DAY, THE PORK
PRODUCERS AND BEEF PRODUCERS  WHO 
PREPARED THE MEAT ON THE GRILLS OUTSIDE
UNDER COLD CONDITIONS, AND TO ALL OTHERS
THAT HELPED MAKE THIS YEAR'S ANNUAL EVENT
A SUCCESS.    ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR NEXT 
YEAR, LET US KNOW.

WEDNESDAY DAILY REPORT

THE 1ST DAY OF THE 21ST ANNUAL KMAQ FARM AND HOME SHOW HAS
BEEN A GOOD DAY DESPITE BEING COLD AND AFTER MORE SNOW LAST NIGHT.    HUNDREDS ENJOYED THE PORK LOIN SANDWICHES OVER THE
NOON HOUR, PREPARED ON THE JACKSON COUNTY PORK PRODUCERS
OUTSIDE GRILL.    AS YOU ENTER THE CONVENTION CENTER, FIRST
OFF TO YOUR RIGHT, THE FRESH POPCORN POPPED (AND FREE) AND
SERVED BY MAQUOKETA STATE BANK EMPLOYEES.

TOM YEARWOOD IN HIS BOOTH.

OUR $100 BILL BLACK-OUT BINGO WINNER THIS AFTERNOON WAS ELVIRA
DONOVAN OF 8TH STREET IN DEWITT, HOLDING HER WINNING CARD AND
THE $100 BILL.    NEARLY 100 PLAYED THE HALF-HOUR GAME AND AFTER
THE GAME, A DOZEN OTHER PRIZES WERE GIVEN TO PLAYERS WHO
HAD A LUCKY NUMBER ON THE BACK OF THE CARD THEY PLAYED.

THE 2ND AND FINAL DAY TOMORROW, WILL FEATURE BEEFBURGERS
AT THE BARGAIN FOOD BAR.....THE WINNERS OF THE 3 FRIENDS OF
AGRICULTURE  AWARDS OVER THE NOON HOUR AND "LIVE" MUSIC IN THE AFTERNOON.   TOMORROW, THE SHOW ENDS AT 4:30.   REMEMBER .. IT
IS FREE TO ALL.

THE IOWA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION HAS RELEASED THE
DISTRICT ASSIGNMENTS FOR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAMS FOR
THE 2018 AND 2919 SEASONS.   MAQUOKETA IS IN CLASS 3-A WHICH HAS
A TOTAL OF 54 TEAMS.   THE CARDINALS HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED TO
DISTRICT 4 AND OTHER TEAMS IN DISTRICT 4 ARE CENTER POINT URBANA...
WESTERN DUBUQUE...MARION....DUBUQUE WAHLERT.... AND CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER.     DEWITT WILL BE IN CLASS 3-A DISTRICT 5.    SCHOOLS NOW
WILL WORK ON SETTING UP THEIR NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS.   HOPEFULLY, MAQUOKETA CAN PLAY DEWITT IN
NON-CONFERENCE GAMES BOTH YEARS.




THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS AND BOYS  HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING TEAMS WILL
HOST A CLASS 1-A STATE QUALIFYING  MEET ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY
13TH AT TIMBER LANES.    THE CARDINALS WILL WELCOME  5 OTHER
AREA TEAMS TO TOWN FOR THE MEET WHICH WILL START AT 10 A.M.
THEY ARE BELLEVUE,  CENTRAL DEWITT, DURANT, MARION AND MONTICELLO.

MONDAY, SNOWY, DAILY

SECTIONAL WRESTLING LAST SATURDAY, ABE MICHELS WAS CHAMPION
AT 152 POUNDS, TAVEN RICH GRABBED A SECOND AT 285 POUNDS AND
BOTH CARDINALS WILL NOW WRESTLE IN THE DISTRICT THIS SATURDAY AT
DEWITT.
SATURDAY IN BOWLING, THE MAQUOKETA BOYS TOOK FIRST IN THE
CAMANCHE INVITATIONAL AND THE GIRLS CAME IN THIRD.
CONNOR SCHNOOR MADE THE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM WITH A 223 AND 278 GAME.   CHEROKEE TRAMAN, JO KORTENKAMP AND ASHLEY WELLS MADE ALL-TOURNAMENT.
FRIDAY NIGHT IN BOWLING, THE GIRLS DEFEATED INDEPENDENCE AND THE BOYS LOST TO INDE.
BASKETBALL, FRIDAY NIGHT, THE CARDINAL GIRLS WON AT HOME OVER SOLON AND THE BOYS  AT SOLON, LOST IN OT.
THE GIRLS RECORD NOW IS 10 AND 10 AND THE BOYS, 9 AND 10.

WE ARE EXPECTING 5 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW BY TUESDAY MORNING.

WATCHING A PARADE IS FUN FOR ALL AGES.     THE JACKSON COUNTY 2018
FAIR PARADE THIS YEAR WILL BE ON TUESDAY, JULY 24TH.  AND AT THE
FRONT OF THE PARADE, MARK "SPARKY" ANDERSON.   IT WAS ANNOUNCED
YESTERDAY ON KMAQ'S  "JUST TALK"  SHOW THAT "SPARKY" WILL BE THE
PARADE MARSHALL.   THE ANNOUNCEMENT MADE BY LANNY SIMPSON,
FAIR MANAGER.
AND THE   FAIR FAMILY  WILL BE THE MIKE FRANZEN FAMILY OF MONMOUTH.
THE FRANZEN FAMILY HAS BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE JACKSON COUNTY
FAIR FOR A COUPLE OF GENERATIONS.   THE LAST 4  YEARS, THE FAMILY
HAS RUN THE TRUCK AND TRACTOR PULL AT THE FAIR.     MIKE HAS BEEN
A FAIR BOARD MEMBER FOR MANY YEARS.    THE FAMILY WILL ALSO BE IN
THE PARADE.


THE MAQUOKETA CARDINAL WRESTLERS WILL BE IN THE SECTIONAL
TOURNAMENT AT ANAMOSA THIS SATURDAY.      FOUR OF THE SIX
TEAMS ARE WAMAC SCHOOLS....CENTER POINT URBANA, DYERSVILLE BECKMAN, ANAMOSA AND MAQUOKETA.   THE OTHER TWO, MONTICELLO
AND DUBUQUE WAHLERT.   THE TOP TWO WRESTLERS IN EACH WEIGHT CLASS WILL GO ON TO THE DISTRICT MEET THE FILLOWING WEEK.
