THE EIGHT PAINTINGS BELOW WERE DONE OVER 20 YEARS AGO TO HANG
IN THE THEN NEW McDONALD'S ON WEST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA.
MANY OF YOU HAVE LOOKED AT THEM OVER THE YEARS.
GLEN KARPINSKI, OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT, HIRED AN ARTIST BY THE NAME OF BECKY TVRDIK TO DO THE PAINTINGS. SHE AT THE TIME WAS
A RESIDENT OF ST. CHARLES, ILLINOIS, REPRESENTING Tree Top Studios.
IT IS NOW KNOWN WHERE SHE LIVES NOW. THE EIGHT ARE:
TOP TO BOTTOM....
THE STONE HOME JUST SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA OWNED BY MARY ANN MICHEL.
THE DECKER HOTEL.
THE JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S HOME ON WEST PLATT, TAKEN DOWN
AND NOW THE SITE OF THE LAW CENTER.
THE LAKEHURST DAM.
MITCHELL-MASKREY MILL IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA.
A SCENE OF DOWNTOWN BUILDINGS.
THE MAQUOKETA LIVESTOCK BARN/OFFICE ON WEST SUMMIT STREET.
AND
COSTELLO'S OLD MILL, JUST EAST OF MAQUOKETA.
McDONALD'S IS BEING REMODLED ... OUTSIDE (AN EXTRA DRIVE-UP LANE)
AND INSIDE TOO. IT WILL HAVE A COMPLETELY NEW LOOK WHEN DONE
IN NOVEMBER. THE NEW INTERIOR WILL NOT INCLUDE THE PAINTINGS.
GLEN KARPINSKI HAS DECIDED TO SELL THEM AT SILENT AUCTION AND
KMAQ IS HOSTING THE AUCTION IN OUR FRONT OFFICE. THE PAINTINGS ARE ON DISPLAY NOW AND BIDS WILL BE TAKEN UNTIL OCTOBER 31ST. THE MONEY FROM THEM WILL BE DONATED TO THE RONALD McDONALD HOUSE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA HOSPITAL. PLUS, IN ADDITION TO DONATING THE PAINTINGS, WHATEVER THE TOTAL COMES TO FOR THE EIGHT PAINTINGS, KARPINSKI WILL MATCH THAT AMOUNT AS HIS ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTION. STOP IN AT KMAQ AND MAKE YOUR BID OR YOU CAN MAKE YOUR BID VIA EMAIL.... kmaq@kmaq.com
