THEIR WEST SIDE LANES ARE  OPEN.







SCHUELLER AND SONS RECONSTRUCTION  (CONTRACTOR FOR MANY YEARS) HAS JUST COMPLETED THEIR NEW HEADQUARTERS ON EAST PLATT.   REALLY NICE ADDITION TO EAST PLATT/HIGHWAY 64.     YEARS AGO,
THIS WAS THE LOCATION FOR MANY YEARS OF RICH WELDING.    THE PART AT
RIGHT WAS ADDED FOR MORE ROOM LAST YEAR.   SCHUELLER'S CAN DO ANYTHING FROM A GARAGE, NEW KITCHEN OR BATH, SIDEWALK, NEW WINDOWS, TO A DECK
OR PATIO....YOU NAME IT.


AT THE STATE TRACK MEET THIS WEEK, SOPHOMORE CARI PICKUP, JUNIOR
NATHAN WATTERS AND JUNIOR ZAK SCARE.



ONLY 103 GRADUATES THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL...LOWEST NUMBER IN YEARS.    JUST A COUPLE YEARS AGO, THERE WERE AROUND 150.     A CONCERN OF MANY.
BACCALAUREATE SERVICE FOR THE GRADUATES WAS HELD LAST NIGHT AT THE METHODIST CHURCH AND BROADCAST ON KMAQ.  
I HEARD THERE WERE ABOUT A DOZEN GRADS THERE .....AND..... THAT IS WAS A WELL-DOWN SERVICE.

THE NEW GRILL AND CHILL DQ IS NOW VISABLE FROM SOUTH MAIN.
WORK CONTINUES ON THE BUILDING AND ON THE PARKING AROUND IT.
BIEHL'S NEW DQ IS  SCHEDULED TO OPEN MID-JUNE...AND BE OPEN YEAR- AROUND WITH SEATING INSIDE FOR 40....AND DRIVE-UP WINDOW TOO.

AND BOYS BOTH PLACED 8TH IN THE 8 TEAM FIELD.

WEDNESDAY DAILY

MAY BEEF MONTH ...  AND FAREWAY STORES NEW SEMI IS ON THE ROAD PROMOTING BEEF.     THERE ARE OVER 100 FAREWAY STORES AND MAQUOKETA
HAS HAD ONE SINCE THE 1960'S.     IT WILL BE COVERING A 5-STATE AREA.





























SUNDAY, THE  LOCAL PITCH HIT AND RUN SECTIONAL COMPETITION WAS HELD
AT CROW CREEK PARK IN BETTENDORF.  
THE GIRL WINNERS WERE:   KENLYNN LeROY,  JUSTICE ARMBRUSTER,  SERENITY
HEINRICH AND TRINITY HEINRICH.
THE BOY WINNERS WERE:   LUCAS SCHUELLER,  JADEN FITZPATRICK, JACE
ARMBRUSTER AND KYE COAKLEY.
MAQUOKETA HAD 5 FIRST PLACE WINNERS:     JUSTICE,  SERENITY,  TRINITY,  JADEN, AND KYE.   THEY HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE IF THEIR SCORES WILL ALLOW THEM
TO ADVANCE TO THE NEXT ROUND OF COMPETITION.



MONDAY, SHORTLY AFTER SCHOOL LEFT OUT,  THERE WAS A BOMB THREAT
AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.   IT WAS WRITTEN ON A BATHROOM WALL.
THE NEXT DAY A STUDENT AND FATHER CAME TO THE SCHOOL AND THE  STUDENT
DID CONFESS TO THE THREAT.    THIS MORNING, IT WAS FIRST THOUGHT
THERE HAD BEEN ANOTHER THREAT AND SO THE HIGH SCHOOL WAS EVACUATED.
BUT FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND THERE WAS NOT A THREAT.    THE PROBLEM THIS MORNING DID HAVE TO DO WITH  THE SUSPECT OF MONDAY AND HE WAS
ASKED TO COME TO THE LAW CENTER FOR AN INTERVIEW WITH  POLICE.   THE
MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR WAS THEN CHARGED WITH THREAT OF TERRORISM,  A CLASS  D  FELONY AND WILL SEE A JUDGE TOMORROW.     THE STUDENT HAS NOW BEEN IDENTIFIED AS IRA LUCKIE JOHNSON, AGE 18, OF MAQUOKETA.    HIS NAME WAS RELEASED THIS AFTERNOON BY POLICE CHIEF BRAD KORANDA.

THE SHORT SEASON FOR BEAUTIFUL PURPLE LILAC BUSHES IN MAQUOKETA.    THE TOP ONE IN FRONT OF THE HOME OF TOM AND CAROL BREUCH AT 815 NILES STREET AND THE BOTTOM THREE NEXT TO PARKING LOT AT THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM.



THE JUNE 5TH PRIMARY IS GETTING CLOSE.   AND
YARD SIGNS ARE OUT IN MAQUOKETA.    ALAN 
TILL OF RURAL MAQUOKETA  AND  SUPERVISOR LARRY McDEVITT ARE OPPOSING EACH OTHER ON THE DISTRICT 3 DEMOCRATIC SIDE .....AND FOR DISTRICT 3 ON THE REPUBLICAN TICKET, UNOPPOSED, IS JEFF HOLTZ OF RURAL MAQUOKETA.   COUNTY TREASURER NANCY ROLING WILL RETIRE AT THE END OF THE YEAR.    ARLENE LYON IS RUNNING AS A DEMOCRAT FOR TREASURER AND BETH GERLACH WILL BE THE REPUBLICAN FOR TREASURER.     SINCE LYON IS UNOPPOSED, I AM
SURPRISED SHE  HAS YARD SIGNS.    SO, THE ONLY
LOCAL COUNTY CONTEST JUNE 5TH, IS THE 
CONTEST BETWEEN AND TILL AND McDEVITT.
HAVE SEEN NO McDEVITT YARD SIGNS YET.

IN GIRLS GOLF YESTERDAY AT THUNDER HILLS,
THE WAMAC MEET WAS WON BY WILLIAMSBURG.
ANAMOSA CAME IN 2ND, DEWITT 3RD, AND MAQUOKETA 4TH, ONE STROKE BEHIND DEWITT.
MEDALIST WAS TAYLOR THEDE OF MAQUOKETA WITH AN 84, INCLUDING 2 BIRDIES.
IN THE BOYS CONFERENCE MEET, 16 TEAMS PLAYING AT ANAMOSA, DEWITT TOOK FIRST WITH A 316 SCORE AND THE CARDINALS 9TH WITH A SCORE
OF 371.   CAIDEN ATIENZA HAD BEST MAQUOKETA
SCORE, SHOOTING AN 85.

"LAYERS OF MAQUOKETA" IS STILL ON...THE WEEK-LONG EVENT ENDS TOMORROW.
LAST NIGHT,  NEARLY 150 PACKED THE MAQUOKETA ART EXPERIENCE DOWNTOWN
FOR THE MAE COFFEE HOUSE, FROM 6:30 UNTIL AFTER 8.   TREVIS AND NANCY
MAYFIELD WERE IN CHARGE AND CO-EMCEED AS WELL.    THE EVENING FEATURED
MUSIC, READINGS, DANCES, AND MORE.       AND FREE COFFEE AND REFRESHMENTS.
TOMORROW,  LOTS OF EVENTS.
CHALK THE WALK.
ANTIQUE TRACTOR SHOW.
TIMBER CITY BELLS FROM 1 TO 2  P.M. AT MAQUOKETA ART EXPERIENCE.
FOOD VENDORS ON MAIN STREET.
MAQUOKETA'S POPULAR  BLACK VELVET BAND FROM 3 UNTIL 5 P.M. ON THE GREEN SPACE STAGE.
COME TO MAQUOKETA.

STARTS TONIGHT EVERYWHERE INCLUDING AT THE VOY 3 THEATRE.


TODAY WAS MY 79TH BIRTHDAY.    HAD A NICE DAY AND THANKS TO ALL THAT
WISHED ME HAPPY BIRTHDAY.     OF COURSE, I WORKED AS USUAL.
MY WATCH GAVE UP RECENTLY AND NANCY GOT ME A NEW ONE.
      LEIGHTON AND CINDY ...  TAKING NANCY AND I OUT FOR DINNER TONIGHT TO
      CELEBRATE A LITTLE MORE.

IN THIS  MORNING WITH A FRESHLY BAKED CHOCOLATE CAKE,  STILL WARM

THE NEW "FRONT ENTRANCE" LOOK OF THE DECKER HOTEL AND RESTAURANT,
AFTER DOORS REFINISHED AND ENTRYWAY PAINTED.    REFLECTION OF KMAQ
IN LEFT DOOR WINDOWS.     IT  HAS BEEN MANY YEARS SINCE THE TWO DOORS
HAVE LOOKED THIS GOOD.
YESTERDAY FROM 4:30 P.M. UNTIL 6:30, IT  WAS "BUSINESS AFTER HOURS" AT THE DECKER FOR MEMBERS OF THE MAQUOKETA AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
FOOD AND WINE AND TOURS ENJOYED BY MANY.     I HAD MY CAMERA  ALONG OF COURSE.
AFTER WALKING UP THE OPEN STAIRWAY IN THE LOBBY, THIS
LOOK OF THE 2ND STORY HALLWAY WITH ROOMS ON EACH
SIDE.     SOME VISITORS AT THE END.   WE COULD HAVE TAKEN
THE ELEVATOR AND DID USE IT LATER WHEN GOING DOWN.
ONE OF THE 15 ROOMS, ALL WITH ANTIQUE FURNITURE.   THERE ARE 
DIFFERENT SIZE ROOMS AND THERE IS ONE SUITE OF 3 ROOMS, WITH
3 BEDS.   ROOMS START AT $79.00 A NIGHT.
A TYPICAL 2ND FLOOR BATHROOM.     THIRD FLOOR BATHROOMS
ALL HAVE A JACUZI.

ONE LOOK AT  "TREVIN'S BUFFALO BAR"  IN BASEMENT.   SEE 
THE BUFFALO IN THE FLOOR.    BEEN THERE MANY, MANY YEARS.
ANOTHER LOOK!   "TREVIN'S BUFFALO BAR"
IS OPEN AT 4:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.
THERE IS AN OUTSIDE STAIRWAY ENTRANCE 
AND A STAIRWAY FROM THE LOBBY.
A PHOTO OF KMAQ FROM THE 3RD FLOOR SUITE.   THERE ARE THREE BUILDINGS
IN MAQUOKETA WITH 3 FLOORS ABOVE GROUND.   ONE 4TH FLOOR BUILDING....
THE HURST HOTEL APARTMENTS.    THE 4TH FLOOR IS A COMMUNITY ROOM AND
YOU CAN TAKE THE ELEVATOR UP ANYTIME AND TAKE A LOOK DOWN ON MAIN.

KMAQ IS GLAD TO HAVE OUR NEIGHBOR....THE DECKER HOTEL AND RESTAURANT.... AGAIN OPEN AND ENTERTAINING LOCALS AND TOURISTS.


WE STILL HAVE THESE LEGION RAFFLE TICKETS FOR SALE HERE
AT KMAQ.   ABOUT 200 A SOLD AND DURING THE YEAR, T HERE
WILL BE 48 TOTAL NAMES DRAWN FOR THE $25 PRIZE.    GREAT

CAME IN 2ND TO MONTICELLO.    MONTE 341, 
MAQUOKETA 345.     CARDINAL TAYLOR THEDE TOOK
2ND PLACE FOR THE DAY WITH HERE 79.

INDEPENDENCE 3RD AND MAQUOKETA 4TH.    THE CARDINALS WERE LED
BY KALEB FLENKER WHO FINISHED 2ND IN #1 SINGLES.   HE WAS THE
ONLY CARDINAL TO MEDAL.

HAD SOME RAIN TODAY......MORE COMING TONIGHT AND TOMORROW.
