29 TODAY....IN THE 30'S TOMORROW.

GOV. TERRY BRANSTAD HAS APPOINTED JACKSON COUNTY MAGISTRATE
MARK LAWSON AS A JUDGE FOR THE SEVENTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT.
HE REPLACES CHARLES PELTON IN CLINTON WHO RETIRED LAST YEAR.
LAWSON, WHO LIVES IN BELLEVUE AND HAS A LAW OFFICE IN MAQUOKETA,
SAID HE WILL RESIGN HIS MAGISTRATE'S POSITION AND EXPECTS TO START HIS NEW JOB IN EARLY FEBRUARY.   THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME HE
WAS A FINALIST.  LAWSON SAID HE HOPES TO SELL HIS PRIVATE LAW PRACTICE ON WEST PLATT STREET IN MAQUOKETA.

MAQUOKETA FIRE CHIEF MARK BECK WAS RE-ELECTED AS CHIEF LAST NIGHT AND STARTS HIS 16TH YEAR AS CHIEF WITH NEARLY 30 YEARS
ON THE DEPARTMENT.   BECK SAID 2011 WAS A FAIRLY  NORMAL YEAR WITH 78 FIRE CALLS.   THERE ARE 3 OPENINGS IN THE DEPARTMENT NOW.
