BUILDING ON THE CORNER IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA, NOW AN ANTIQUE
STORE OWNED BY THE JIM AND SUE MAYBERRY. THEY HIRED (ABOVE) JEN
FOWLER TO DO THE MURAL AND IT IS NOW A WORK IN PROGRESS. JEN IS A MAQUOKETA NATIVE THAT LIVED IN CALIFORNIA AND RETURNED TO NIAGARA STREET IN MAQUOKETA WITH TWO YOUNG DAUGHTERS ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO.
HER GRANDMA WAS MONA FOWLER. JEN HAS BEEN PAINTING MURALS SINCE 1996.
MAQUOKETA WAS KNOWN FOR POPULAR CIGARS MADE IN A FACTORY MANY YEARS AGO. THE TWO MEN SHE IS PAINTING WERE WITH OR OWNED THAT
FACTORY. I WILL HAVE MORE ABOUT THE MAQUOKETA CIGARS, AND MORE
ABOUT JEN WHEN THE MURAL IS COMPLETED SOMETIME THIS SUMMER.
I HAVE TO BELIEVE THE MURAL IS GOING TO BE A NICE DOWNTOWN ATTRACTION FOR MANY YEARS.
THE FARMERS MARKET OPENED FOR THE SEASON LAST NIGHT ON THE OHNWARD
FINE ARTS CENTER PARKING LOT. THE MAN IN CHARGE, TED STRAIT, TOLD ME
HE WAS HAPPY WITH THE OPENING NIGHT. IT WILL BE STAGED EACH TUESDAY
NIGHT UNTIL OCTOBER. RAZOR RAY OF BELLEVUE (AGE 89) PROVIDED THE
MUSIC, WITH WIFE DORIS GIVING SUPPORT. ON JUNE 27TH, THEY WILL CELEBRATE THEIR 69TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. TOOK SOME PHOTOS BELOW....
NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THESE PHOTOS BECAUSE I WAS LATE IN GETTING
THERE. MANY COME EARLY FOR BEST SELECTION AND WERE GONE HOME.
