FOR THE 2ND DAY IN A ROW....83.
70% CHANCE OF RAIN TOMORROW NIGHT.
89 FOR A HIGH THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.
JACKSON COUNTY ENGINEER CLARK SCHOLZ AT THE SUPERVISOR'S MEETING THIS MORNING SAID THE COUNTY ROADS ARE ROUGH RIGHT
NOW WITH WHAT'S CALLED "A WASHBOARD EFFECT".
THE REASON HE SAID..."LACK OF RAIN".
RESIDENTS ARE COMPLAINING.
AT THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT, OVER 50 PEOPLE WHO RECENTLY SIGNED A PETITION COMPLAINING ABOUT THE CONDITIONS OF THE EMMA COURT APARTMENTS, WERE AT THE MEETING. THEY WANT THE CITY TO TAKE SOME ACTION AGAINST THE OWNER ROY WARD.
THEY ASKED THAT WARD BE FORCED TO MAINTAIN THE BUILDING, MOW THE GRASS, AND WEEDS AND GET THE GARBAGE CLEANED UP REGULARLY.
COUNCILMAN TROY THEDE SAID THE CITY NEEDS A LANDLORD ORDINANCE.
WARD WAS THERE AND SAID HE PLANS TO DEMOLISH THE BUILDING, BUT
NEEDS TO GIVE 30 DAYS NOTICE. HE SAID HE HAS ALREADY EVICTED
THE BAD RENTERS AND HAS HIRED A MANAGER TO OVERSEE THE COMPLEX. THERE WAS SOME EXCHANGE OF WORDS BETWEEN WARD
AND SOME PETTIONERS AND THAT CARRIED OVER TO THE LOBBY ONCE
THE COUNCIL SPENT 50 MINUTES DISCUSSING THE ISSUE AND
DECIDED TO TURN THE MATTER OVER TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE.
POLICE CHIEF BRAD KORANDA WENT TO THE LOBBY TO MAKE SURE THE DISCUSSIONS THERE DID NOT ESCALATE ANY FURTHER.
WARD, A MAQUOKETA NATIVE WHO SPENT MUCH OF HIS LIFE IN CALIFORNIA,
MOVED BACK TO MAQUOKETA ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO AND OWNS OTHER PROPERTY BESIDES THE EMMA COURT APARTMENTS, INCLUDING THE
FORMER KEY MOTEL AND THE DOLLAR GENERAL STORE BUILDING.
IN A PUBLIC NOTICE AD, DR. PAUL HORST HAS ANNOUNCED TO RESIDENTS OF MAQUOKETA AND JACKSON COUNTY THAT HE WILL CLOSE HIS
CHIROPRACTIC OFFICE AT 123 SOUTH 2ND STREET. THE LAST DAY WILL BE SEPTEMBER 28TH. HE AND HIS FAMILY WILL RELOCATE TO ANOTHER AREA TO BE CLOSER TO THEIR FAMILY. HE AND HIS WIFE VALERIE MOVED TO
MAQUOKETA IN 1989. HE URGED HIS PATIENTS TO USE THE SERVICES OF OTHER MAQUOKETA CHIROPRACTORS. THEY ARE URGED TO VISIT HIS OFFICE TO PICK-UP RECORDS OR HAVE THEM TRANSFERRED. IF I COUNTED RIGHT, MAQUOKETA HAS 7 CHIRORPACTORS. I HAVE ENJOYED DR.
HORST ACTING IN PEACE PIPE PLAYER PRODUCTIONS.
A HOME ON ARCADE STREET, THAT HAD A BAD FIRE EARLIER THIS MONTH,
WAS TAKEN DOWN TODAY AND HAULED AWAY. IT WAS OWNED BY ROY WARD.
MY FEET ACHE....YUP IT'S AFTER 5....TIME TO CALL IT ANOTHER DAY.
TAKE CARE.
