HAS 36 REGULAR GOLF COURSES AND 12 CHAMPIONSHIP COURSES AND
CAN SCHEDULE  OVER 10,000 TEE TIMES EVERYDAY.    AND GUESS HOW
MOST OF THE RESIDENTS GET AROUND TOWN, DAY AND NIGHT.
YES INDEED...GOLF CARTS....NICE (MOST EXPENSIVE) ONES.

I WAS INVITED TO A SPECIAL EVENT TODAY...AND OF COURSE TOOK MY LITTLE TRUSTY SONY CAMERA.   KEEP READING AND LOOKING.

I ATTENDED THE ANNUAL VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCH TODAY AT THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM, SPONSORED BY THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY (JCHS) FROM NOON UNTIL1.     ABOVE, JACK WILLEY AS PRESIDENT OF THE SOCIETY GAVE THE WELCOME AND SERVED AS EMCEE.
HE EXPLAINED HOW THE SOCIETY WOULD NOT SURVIVE WITHOUT THE
MANY VOLUNTEERS.     HE INTRODUCED THE TWO PAID STAFF MEMBERS,
BONNIE MITCHELL AND HER DAUGHTER-IN-LAW KARA MITCHELL.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS EVENT EVERY YEAR IS THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNER OF THE LATE GRACE TUBBS MEMORIAL SUMMITT AWARD TO
A VOLUNTEER OR VOLUNTEERS.     LONGTIME VOLUNTEER GRACE TUBBS
DIED IN 1998 AND THE FOLLOWING YEAR, HER SONS NAMED THEIR FIRST
WINNER.    TODAY WAS THE 17TH AND WAS ANNOUNCED BY STEVE TUBBS
OF RURAL MAQUOKETA.    MOST YEARS, THE WINNER IS AN INDIVIDUAL
BUT ONCE BEFORE, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NAMED AS A GROUP
AND THIS  YEAR, THE AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO THE JCHS.
LEFT TO RIGHT ABOVE, BONNIE, JACK, STEVE AND VI YEAGER,  VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE SOCIETY.    THE JCHS RECEIVED A $500 CASH AWARD FOR THE CHARITY OF THEIR CHOICE (GUESS WHO THAT
WAS?)..... AND A CLOCK THAT WILL BE ON DISPLAY AT THE MUSEUM.

AND BIG NEWS FROM THE JCHS, ANNOUNCED BY JACK.    JUNIOR PAPKE
OF RURAL MILES WAS A BIG JCHS SUPPORTER AND WE FOUND OUT TODAY
THAT IN HIS WILL,  HE HAS GIVEN A FARM TO THE SOCIETY.    THE 75 ACRE
FARM IS LOCATED ON HIGHWAY 64 BETWEEN MILES AND SABULA.
THE HOUSE AND 3 ACRES WILL BE SOLD THIS SPRING AND THE 70+ ACRES WILL CONTINUE TO BE RENTED FOR ANNUAL INCOME FOR THE SOCIETY.
WHAT A GREAT GIFT FROM JUNIOR, WHO DIED SEVERAL YEARS AGO.
THE JCHS WAS STARTED IN 1964 (THERE HAD BEEN AN EARLIER VERSION
THAT FOLDED) AND I'M SURE JUNIOR WAS A MEMBER FROM THE VERY BEGINNING.

AND I ALSO FOUND OUT TODAY, THAT THE ADMISSION TO THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM HAS BEEN LOWERED TO $3.00.     SAME FOR THE
FAIRGROUNDS MUSEUM....OR $5 TO VISIT BOTH.

BIG YEAR COMING  UP FOR THE SOCIETY.    OPEN HOUSE FOR THE ERGON
PENNINGROTH BUILDING ON THE FAIRGROUNDS, THE MOVING OF THE
ONLY NARROW GUAGE DEPOT IN THE WORLD FROM LaMOTTE TO
NEAR THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM AND THE UNVEILING OF THE PLAQUE
ON THE FAIRGROUNDS,  OF JACKSON COUNTY'S FAMOUS HARNESS RACING
HORSE BURIAL SITE NEAR THE  RACE TRACK.

I'M PROUD DO BE A JCHS LIFE MEMBER AND HOPE OTHERS WILL CONTINUE
TO JOIN THIS YEAR.     ADMISSION IS THEN FREE ON ANY VISIT, AND YOU
ALSO GET THE NEWSLETTER SIX TIMES A YEAR.     AFTER THE DEATH
OF A FRIEND OR LOVED ONE, CONSIDER A MEMORIAL FOR THE JCHS, WITH A LISTING IN THE FOLLOWING NEWSLETTER.     AND OF COURSE, YOU COULD
DO LIKE JUNIOR PAPKE DID AND GIVE A HOUSE OR FARM TO THE SOCIETY.

WHENEVER I GO TO THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM, I  TAKE A PHOTO OR
TWO.    THIS TIME I TOOK THE 3 BELOW.
RECOGNIZE ANYONE ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE?
LaVERN SOCKS WAS THE FATHER OF BEV CARSON IN MAQUOKETA.   BEN JACOBSEN OWNED RINGLEP HARDWARE ON THE CORNER DOWNTOWN
THAT DID NOT SURVIVE THE BIG FIRE, BARB COOK I DID NOT KNOW, BOB
STRATTON WAS ONE CLINTON ENGINE'S MOST  FAMOUS AND POPULAR
ASSEMBLY LINE EMPLOYEES (HE WAS TOTALLY BLIND) AND M.A. DALCHOW WAS A LONGTIME DENTIST AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTER.    DALCHOW IS
ON LEFT END OF PHOTO, SOX ON RIGHT END.    THE LATE BOB STRATTON
WAS A FRIEND OF MINE AND ON THE SIDE, REPAIRED BYCYCLES.
AN EARLY RIDING LAWNMOWER...WITH A CLINTON ENGINE.    BILL WILL ]
PROBABLY EMAIL ME MORE INFORMATION ON IT.
ASSEMBLE THE CLINTON ENGINE YOURSELF.    GREAT IDEA.   WONDER
WHO CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF THE KIT?   WONDER TOO IF IT WAS
A GOOD SELLER?

LONG DAILY REPORT TODAY...HOPE YOU LIKED IT.
