COLD TODAY. 0 LAST NIGHT.
THIS WEEKEND, AND EARLY NEXT WEEK, WE WILL BE INSTALLING THE
DIGITAL EQUIPMENT IN THE VOY 3 THEATRE, TO REPLACE THE 35MM
FILM EQUIPMENT. THERE WILL BE A NEW DIGITAL (NO FILM) PROJECTOR AND A NEW SURROUND-SOUND (9 SPEAKERS) SYSTEM IN THE AUDITORIUM. A FIRM FROM DES MOINES WILL ASSEMBLE THE EQUIPMENT IN THE VOY 3
BOOTH AND INSTALL THE SOUND EQUIPMENT, WITH ASSISTANCE LOCALLY
BY CASIE CASAL AND TOM MESSERLI. IF ALL GOES WELL, THE NEW
EQUIPMENT WILL BE USED FOR THE FIRST TIME A WEEK FROM THIS
FRIDAY. THE VOY 1 THEATRE AND THE 61 DRIVE-IN ALREADY HAVE
DIGITAL PROJECTORS. THE VOY 2 THEATRE WILL GET THE PROJECTOR
AND RELATED EQUIPMENT NEXT SUMMER. THERE IS A LOT TO THE
CONVERSION PROCESS USING BOXES OF EQUIPMENT STORED IN OUR LOBBY.... SHOWN IN PHOTOS BELOW.
IF I DID NOT PURCHASE THIS EQUIPMET, THE THEATRES WOULD EVENTUALLY
BE CLOSED, AS ONLY SOME MOVIES ON 35MM FILM WILL BE AVAILABLE ON A LIMITED SCALE FOR A FEW MORE MONTHS, AT THE MOST.
MY TOTAL INVESTMENT WHEN COMPLETED WILL BE AROUND $250,000.
BUT NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, THE DIGITAL PICTURE AND SOUND IS BEAUTIFUL.
NOW, HOPEFULLY MAQUOKETA AND AREA RESIDENTS WILL CONTINUE TO
ENJOY MOVIES ON THE BIG LOCAL SCREENS, INSTEAD OF ON TV.
CHECK PHOTOS BELOW, TAKEN TODAY DURING SHERI MELVOLD'S FINAL DAY AT KMAQ AS NEWS DIRECTOR. SHE'S RETIRING BUT PLANS PART TIME
NEWS REPORTING.
