CLOUDY AND 35 TODAY.
WARMER REST OF WEEK.
CRAIG SCHIFFER, AGE 58, OF SUMMIT, NEW JERSEY, DIED TUESDAY WHEN CAUGHT IN A LARGE AVALANCHE NEAR GRENOBLE, FRANCE.
HIS WIFE AMY IS THE DAUGHTER OF LIN REDLING OF MAQUOKETA.
HE WAS SKIING WITH A GUIDE, AND HIS 3 KIDS NEAR GRENOBLE.
THE TWO GIRLS WERE ABLE TO DIG THEMSELVES OUT, THEN DIG OUT
THEIR BROTHER, AND THEN FOUND THEIR DAD. HIS HEART HAD STOPPED AFTER BEING BURIED IN THE SNOW ABOUT 15 MINUTES. HIS WIFE WAS
NOT ALONG. SHIFFER HELD GLOBAL LEADERSHIP ROLES IN LEHMAN BROTHERS HOLDINGS, INC. AND WAS DESCRIBED AS AN EXPERT IN CREDIT.
HE HAD A VACATION HOME OUTSIDE GRENOBLE. AROUND 15 YEARS
AGO, HE MARRIED (HIS SECOND WIFE) AMY IN A JEWISH WEDDING IN
THE COUNTRYSIDE OF RURAL SPRINGBROOK, IOWA, 10 MILES NORTHEAST OF MAQUOKETA. I REMEMBER THAT TWO LARGE WHITE TENTS WERE PUT UP FOR THE WEDDING RECEPTION ON GRAZING LAND NEAR A CREEK AND
GUESTS CAME FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. HE AND AMY HAD 3 CHILDREN AND HE HAD 2 WITH HIS FIRST WIFE. SERVICES ARE PENDING.
