THIS IS THE WEEK OF THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR.....STARTING WITH THE PARADE ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT 6.
A MILES, IOWA TEENAGER WAS NAMED THE 2010 JACKSON COUNTY FAIR QUEEN
DURING CEREMONIES YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.
ELLEN SCHULZ, DAUGHTER OF ERNEST AND LAURA SCHULZ OF MILES WAS
NAMED QUEEN.
FIRST RUNNER-UP WAS KAYLA SIEVERDING, DAUGHTER OF GARY AND JULIE
SIEVERDING OF MAQUOKETA. AND SECOND RUNNER-UP WAS JILL HEINRICH,
DAUGHTER OF JOE AND SHELLEY HEINRICH OF MAQUOKETA.
THE 2010 JACKSON COUNTY FAIR FAMILY WAS ANNOUNCED. THE WANDA
CORNELIUS FAMILY OF RURAL ANDREW WAS HONORED. WANDA CORNELIUS,
LES AND NANCY JOHNSON, CHUCK AND CHRIS CORNELIUS AND THEIR
SON WILL CORNELIUS AND FIANCE KELLY WERE ALL HONORED. WANDA
CORNELIUS HAS WORKED AT THE FAIR FOR 52 YEARS AND FAMILY MEMBERS
HAVE ALSO PARTICIPATED FOR MANY YEARS.
THE FAIR PARADE GRAND MARSHALS WILL BE ROCHELLE RAY, OWNER OF
MAX RAY JEWELRY IN MAQUOKETA FOR MANY YEARS .......AND RETIRED
INSURANCE MAN KEN EHLINGER OF MAQUOKETA. BOTH SERVED YEARS AGO
ON THE FAIRBOARD AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN BIG SUPPORTERS OF THE FAIR.
GOT AN EMAIL YESTERDAY FROM PETE LEHMAN, LONGTIME MANAGER
OF THE J.C.PENNEY STORE IN MAQUOKETA, ASKING ABOUT THE LAKEHURST DAM.
HE HAD HEARD IT WENT OUT. IT WAS THE LAKE DELHI DAM THAT FAILED.
ANYWAY, PETE IS 89, LIVES DOWN SOUTH AND HE AND BETTY ARE DOING
FINE. I HAVE HIS EMAIL ADDRESS IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE IT.
YES...WE HAD A NICE J.C. PENNEY STORE ONCE. THE BUILDING IS GONE, ONE
OF THE BUILDINGS LOST IN THE BIG FIRE.
