O'CONNOR-REGENWETHER POST 3633 IN MAQUOKETA, ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THE WINNERS OF THE VFW'S "PATRIOT'S PEN"
MIDDLE SCHOOL ESSAY WRITING CONTEST.
THERE WERE 28 ENTRIES. THE THEME OF THE NATIONAL CONTEST THIS YEAR:
"DOES PATRIOTISM STILL MATTER?"
THE WINNING 300-WORD ESSAY WAS
WRITTEN BY REESE RUPPERT, AGE 13 AND IN 7TH GRADE AT THE MAQUOKETA MIDDLE SCHOOL. HIS PARENTS ARE KENT AND VICKI RUPERT OF MAQUOKETA. HE WILL
RECEIVE A $150 SAVINGS BOND FROM THE
LOCAL VFW CLUB AND HIS ENTRY WILL NOW BE JUDGED IN DISTRICT COMPETITION.
EVENTUALLY, THE STATE WINNER WILL
RECEIVE AN ALL-EXPENSE TRIP TO WASHINGTON, D.C. EARLY NEXT YEAR AND THE CHANCE FOR A NATIONAL PRIZE.
