WE ARE HAVING BEAUTIFUL WEATHER THESE DAYS. LITTLE COOL, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. AN EARTHQUAKE (4.5) IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS AROUND 1:15 THIS MORNING COULD BE FELT IN MAQUOKETA AND EASTERN IOWA. LOIS FISCHER WHO WORKS FOR ME IN SALES WAS ONE THAT FELT IT, AND SO DID MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW IN BETTENDORF. IN MY 46 YEARS IN MAQUOKETA, THIS WAS THE 3RD EARTHQUAKE
FOR THIS AREA. AT LEAST THAT I KNOW OF. AND EARLY THIS MORNING, WE GOT 17/100 OF AN INCH OF RAIN, BRINGING OUR TOTAL TO JUST OVER 7 INCHES FOR THE MONTH.
A TWO CAR ACCIDENT AT 6 LAST NIGHT SIX MILES NW OF MAQUOKETA. DRIVER OF A PICKUP PULLNG A LIVESTOCK TRAILER, DANNY PEIFER, 39, OF SABULA AND OTHER VEHICLE, DRIVEN BY CHARLOTTE MCCLAFLIN OF RURAL MAQUOKETA. SHE STOPPED AT STOP SIGN BUT THEN PULLED OUT INTO THE INTERSECTION AND WAS STRUCK BY THE TRUCK. CHARLOTTE AND HER HUSBAND, JOHN, WERE TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO THE JACKSON COUNTY PUBLIC HOSPITAL WHERE THEY WERE TREATED
AND RELEASED.
NO BIRTHS OR DEATHS..
SHORT REPORT, NOT MUCH NEWS.
HAVE A GOOD WEEK.

ANOTHER NICE DAY..HIGH OF 80
THE DELMAR MAYOR, PAT KOOB, VERBALLY RESIGNED AND WALKED OUT OF THE JUNE 2ND COUNCIL MEETING AFTER THE COUNCIL OVERODE A RESOLUTION HE HAD VETOED.
A PUBLIC MEETING HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT IN DELMAR TO APPOINT A NEW MAYOR.
AT THE HOSPITAL BOARD MEETING IN MAQUOKETA LAST NIGHT, MEMBERS DECIDED TO DELAY PHASES 4,5 AND 6 FOR A FEW YEARS AT THE HOSPITAL. THE 3 ADDITIONAL PHASES WOULD HAVE INCLUDED A NEW ENTRANCE AND AN OFFICE COMPLEX FOR ALL OF MAQUOKETA'S DOCTORS. THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT JUST COMPLETED COST NEARLY $10 MILLION DOLLARS AND THE ADDITONAL PHASES WOULD HAVE COST AN ESTIMATED $6 MILLION DOLLARS MORE. CEO CURT COLEMAN SAID BOARD MEMBERS AGREED TO MOVE THE SPECIALTY CLINICS AND OUTPATIENT AREA OF THE CURRENT H0SPITAL FROM THE EMERGENCY ROOM AREA TO A NEW VACATED ICU AREA. HE SAID THIS MOVE WOULD CREATE MORE PRIVACY AND MORE ROOM FOR OUTPATIENTS WHEN BEING TREATED. NO TIMETABLE WAS SET FOR THAT MOVE.
THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL TEAM LOST A DOUBLE-HEADER TO BELLEVUE YESTERDAY.
BETSY AND MIKE HAND OF ST. PAUL ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL BORN YESTERDAY IN THE TWIN CITY. MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS ARE BOB AND ANN OSTERHAUS OF MAQUOKETA.
ONE DUCK WINNER IN THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY DUCK RACE MONDAY NIGHT LIVES IN MICHIGAN. HIS PRIZE WILL BE MAILED TO HIM THIS WEEK. HE WAS THE MOST DISTANT WINNER.
HAVE A GOOD NIGHT AND EVEN A BETTER THURSDAY.

PAST WEEKEND, NICE WEATHER...RAIN THIS MORNING AND REST OF THE DAY NICE.
JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES SAY CHARGES ARE PENDING AGAINST CHARLES MARSHALL, III, AGE 20, OF BERNARD, FOR RUNNING OVER DEREK VANAMBURG, AGE 14, AT 6-B'S CAMPGROUND (3 MILES NORTHWEST OF MAQUOKETA) AT 2:30 A.M. JUNE 8TH. DEPUTY KEVIN SCOTT SAID MARSHALL, DRIVING A FORD PICKUP, TOOK OFF IN THE TRUCK, SPINNING ITS WHEELS 120 FEET IN THE GRASS, NEARLY HIT A PARKED CAR, AND SWUNG AROUND THE VEHICLE AND HIT VANAMBURG AT LEAST ONCE WITH THE WHEELS. HE THEN LEFT THE AREA BUT WAS FOUND 4 HOURS LATER. THE TEENAGE WAS AIRLIFTED TO IOWA CITY AND HAS SEEN BEEN DISCHARGED.

THANKS TO JACK WEST OF HOLLAND, MICHIGAN FOR BUYING 6 ROTARY DUCKS.
HE IS A REGULAR READER OF THIS REPORT, SINCE VISITING MAQUOKETA YEARS AGO WHILE HE AND BOB OSTERHAUS SERVED ON A NATIONAL PHARMACY BOARD.
BOB SOLD HIM THE DUCKS. BOB, OF COURSE, IS AN AVID IOWA HAWKEYE FAN AND JACK IS A BIG MICHIGAN STATE FAN...SO THEY HAVE THEIR MOMENTS COMPARING TEAMS, PROBABLY MAKING AN OCCASSIONAL SMALL WAGER. BOB AND ANN ARE GOING LATER THIS WEEK TO ATTEND A WEDDING IN NEW MEXICO AND WILL MISS THE DUCK RACE A WEEK FROM TODAY.
MATT OSTERHAUS TOOK OVER THE GAVEL AND IS NOW THE NEW IOWA PHARMACY PRESIDENT, FOLLOWING THE CONVENTION THIS PAST WEEKEND IN DUBUQUE.
HIS DAD, BOB, IS A PAST IOWA PRESIDENT OF THE GROUP , AS WELL AS A NATIONAL PHARMACY PAST PRESIDENT. CONGRATULATIONS TO MATT!
WITH GUIDEANCE FROM WIFE MARILYN, HE WILL DO A GOOD JOB. MARILYN IS ALSO A PHARMACIST.
I TOURED THE NEWLY EXPANDED JACKSON COUNTY PUBLIC HOSPITAL YESTERDAY...WOW...VERY NICE. GOOD TURNOUT FOR THE AFTERNOON OPEN HOUSE.
A $10 MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT, WITH NO ADDITIONAL TAX MONEY USED.
FORREST MILLER HAD A TEAM OF HIS BIG HORSES AND WAS GIVING WAGON RIDES FROM THE PARKING LOT TO THE MAIN ENTRY.
WE ARE BROADCASTING A MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASEBALL DOUBLE HEADER RIGHT NOW...AND THE BOYS WON THE FIRST ONE AND HAVE A NICE LEAD IN THE SECOND GAME. PAT BOLLMAN IS COACH AGAIN THIS YEAR. EVEN WITH A DOUBLE VICTORY TONIGHT, THEIR OVERALL RECORD IS STILL JUST UNDER 500.
THE MCHS 2004 VALEDICTORIAN IS THE CITIZEN OF THE WEEK THIS WEEK....PICTURE AND STORY AT www.maquoketa-rotary.org
THE VOTING IS STILL GOING ON FOR BROOKE BYAM! IT DID NOT STOP LAST SATURDAY AS I THOUGHT. SO, YOU CAN STILL VOTE FOR HER.
THE NEW MISS IOWA IS NOT FROM THIS AREA. PAGEANT WAS LAST WEEKEND. AS REPORTED EARLIER, WE HAD A
MISS FROM MAQUOKETA IN THE PAGEANT...ALSO A GIRL FROM DEWITT.
I WILL LEAVE WITH THE KMAQ TRAVEL TRI-STATE BUS AT 5 TOMORROW MORNING, FOR BRANSON AND WILL RETURN FRIDAY NIGHT. 38 GOING. WILL SEE 7 BRANSON SHOWS.
SATURDAY MORNING, WILL BE BACK TO BROADCAST THE 11 A.M. PARADE IN BERNARD.
SO, MY NEXT REPORT WILL NOT BE UNTIL NEXT MONDAY.

SUNNY THIS MORNING....CLOUDY THIS AFTERNOON....BUT JUST SPRINKLES.
HAD RAIN OFF AND ON OVER THE WEEKEND....TOTAL RAINFALL IN
MAY IN MAQUOKETA, AROUND 6 INCHES, OVER DOUBLE LAST MAY. SOME
CITIES IN IOWA HAD THE WETTEST MONTH OF MAY IN HISTORY. THE WAPSI FLOODING CAUSED SOME ROADS TWO BE CLOSED FOR AWHILE YESTERDAY. THE VFW AND LEGION DID NOT PUT UP THE AVENUE OF FLAGS AT THE MAQUOKETA CEMETERIES THIS HOLIDAY BECAUSE OF RAIN AND THREATS OF MORE. JACKSON COUNTY IS ONE 67 COUNTIES DESIGNATED
FOR FEDERAL ASSISTANCE, BUT THAT WOULD MAINLY BE FOR CROP LOSS.
NOT MUCH HAPPENED OVER THE WEEKEND, OTHER AND A FEW MINOR ACCIDENTS AROUND THE COUNTY. ANDREW HELD THEIR ANNUAL BRIGG'S MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION AND IT WENT WELL. I SAW THE PARADE
SUNDAY AFTERNOON. NOT A BIG ONE, BUT GOOD...A FEW POLITICAL ENTRIES OF COURSE, WITH THE PRIMARY ELECTION A WEEK FROM TODAY.
