JUST THINK....AT ONE TIME,
THIS WAS HOME TO LITTLE
KIDS AND THEY PLAYED IN THE YARD AND DID THEIR HOME WORK EVERY NIGHT! BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS TREE
EVERY DECEMBER! THE HOUSE
IS COMING DOWN SOON!
STEVE TUBBS OWNS IT AND IT
NEEDS TO COME DOWN, BUT A LITTLE SAD TO SEE IT GO. IT STANDS, BARELY, NEXT TO MY
61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE 5 MILES SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA. I HAVE OWNED THE DRIVE-IN SINCE 1972 AND IT WAS NOT LONG AFTER, THAT THE FINAL
FOLKS LIVED THERE. SINCE THEN, IT HAD WITHERED AWAY. MARGE CORNELIUS ALSO WILL BE SAD TO SEE
IT GO. MARGE OF MAQUOKETA AND HER LATE HUSBAND, FLOYD, LIVED IN THIS
HOUSE RIGHT AFTER THEY GOT MARRIED. AND THEIR FIRST SON WAS BORN
WHILE THEY LIVED THERE. FOR MANY YEARS, THE FARM AND THIS HOUSE WAS
OWNED BY BETTY FRANKLIN. SHE DIED LAST YEAR. SHE WAS ONE OF THE
PARTNERS BUILDING THE DRIVE-IN THEATRE ON HER LAND IN 1950. STEVE
TUBBS OWNS THE FARM NEXT TO IT AND HE PURCHASED THE FARM FROM THE
FRANKLIN ESTATE AND INFORMED ME LAST WEEK THAT I BETTER TAKE A PHOTO OF IT BECAUSE HE WILL HAVE IT DEMOLISHED SOON. A LITTLE CLINTON COUNTY HISTORY THIS MORNING. OH, BY THE WAY, THE TENTATIVE OPENING DATE FOR
THE DRIVE-IN IS FRIDAY, APRIL 1ST.
REMEMBER...THE 61 IS A FAMILY DRIVE-IN! WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WATCHED A MOVIE AT A DRIVE-IN? THIS SEASON, EARLY, BRING YOUR RADIO,
LAWN CHAIR OR BLANKET, SOME HOME MADE FOOD IF YOU LIKE, AND HAVE A FUNTIME AT THE 61. YES...WE HAVE A NICE CONCESSION STAND IF YOU DON'T BRING ENOUGH FOOD. BRING THE KIDS EARLY FOR FREE TRAIN RIDES AND FUN ON THE SWINGS AND IN THE SANDBOX OR AT THE VOLLEYBALL NET.

One night while driving by this house, I saw a light on in an upstairs room. Thinking this was weird, I turned around to look closer. The light went out, just as I stopped my vehicle...and I don't think their was any power to the house! Haunted???
ReplyDeleteI've been sadly watching that poor house deteriorate for a long time wishing someone could rescue it. It is hard to get rid of these old houses because of lead paint and asbestos regulations. I babysat there once in the 1960's and thought it was a neat old house with big rooms.
